The New Lincoln Nautilus

Lincoln Motor company is doing some rebranding! The MKX name is no more. This vehicle will have a new name for the 2019 model and this name is the Nautilus. The Nautilus is making its debut at auto shows now. This vehicle is unveiling a new name, but it also has some new and updated features to go with the name.

According to the Detroit News, “The new Nautilus will have an updated center console, wireless charging pad and the latest in Ford’s Sync 3 telematic system. It comes with a new suite of driver-assist technology such as lane-centering, adaptive cruise-control and an evasive steer-assist function that uses radar and cameras to avoid rear-end collisions.”

Also, new for the Nautilus will be 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that gives you 245-horsepower, and the available 2.7-liter, 335-horsepower engine. The engineers at Lincoln decided to go turbocharged with the engines for the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus.

The 2019 Lincoln Nautilus will also be getting an updated exterior look. This includes a new to the Nautilus signature grille with Lincoln Star mesh that was originally featured on the Continental. There will also be a Nautilus badge on the front fender, updated taillights and a liftgate with a slightly different look. All of these together will help rebrand this luxury crossover.

Why did Lincoln decide to go away from the MKX name? According to Detroit News, “In re-branding, Lincoln admits the “MK” nameplates failed to generate a buzz. Consumers were not connecting with the names, but Lincoln was able to build a solid base thanks to enhanced customer service options it started offering roughly five years ago.”

We think the name change and the interior and exterior updates will leave customers feeling excited for the Lincoln future. The 2019 Nautilus will be available starting next summer, and we are excited for this vehicle to arrive.

Right now, you will have to wait to upgrade to a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus, but if you are in the market for a New Ford or Lincoln vehicle, you can find what you’re looking for at Pilson Ford.

A New Ford Mustang Coming?

If you have ever wanted truly incredible horsepower on your Ford Mustang, look no further than the 2018 Mustang RTR. The 2018 Factory Mustang can give you up to 460 horsepower, but the 2018 Mustang RTR is going to be a huge step up, giving you above 700 horsepower.

What is a Mustang RTR?

According to Jalopnik, RTR stands for “Ready to Rock,” and it “is an independent seller of upgrade kits, partnered with Ford.”

This means that the Mustang RTR has undergone modifications to improve the performance of the Mustang. However, these changes were all Ford-approved. RTR gives you the ability to upgrade your Mustang to get even more of the performance and style you’re looking for.

What upgrades does an Mustang RTR receive?

David Tracy of Jalopnik explains some of the additions to the Mustang GT to make it Ready to Rock include “performance parts like a Ford Performance Supercharger, an air-to-water intercooler, an upgraded fuel injection system, lowering springs, an axle back exhaust, new wheels and also a bunch of appearance touches.”

The top-of-the-line RTR upgrades to the 2018 Mustang could end up making this vehicle a bit pricey, so there are also a few cheaper package options, so you can still get upgrades, but at a more affordable price.

RTR is going to offer three upgrade packages for the 2018 Mustang. Spec 1 gives you a lot of aesthetic upgrades, Stage 2 adds some performance features like adjustable shocks and struts, sway bars, bigger wheels and more. Finally, Spec 3 gives you stylish exterior upgrades as well as those engine upgrades that will get you above 700 horsepower.

The 2018 Ford Mustang is going to be more powerful than ever with 460 horsepower. However, the 2018 Mustang RTR is also going to be more powerful than ever with over 700 horsepower. If you are looking to increase the power and performance of your Mustang vehicle, you will want to make sure it is Ready to Rock.

At Pilson Ford, we are proud to provide you with quality Ford vehicles that give you the power and performance you want and need. Check out Pilson’s current inventory of Ford Mustangs or check out new Ford models for sale here.

Ford Commercial Vans for sale

Ford Transit Connect Van Receives a Makeover for the 2019 Model Year

According to recent reports, Ford fans can expect some exciting new updates to the next-generation Ford Transit Connect Van. The new vehicle will receive a full exterior re-design which is sure to make it the sleekest, most stylish van on Mattoon Ford dealer lots.

Although Ford has kept relatively quiet about the Transit Connect Van’s forthcoming makeover, spy photographers were able to snap a few photos of the vehicle prototype during testing at the automaker’s Dearborn, Michigan facility.

Despite Ford’s attempt to camouflage the Transit Connect’s re-designed front end, the changes and improvements to its fascia are obvious. The new van will feature narrow headlights and a contemporary grille that reminds us of the one featured on the Ecoboost compact crossover. It appears that the van’s updates may be Ford’s latest attempt to streamline its lineup and achieve a cohesive design across its entire portfolio.

Wherever Ford commercial vans are for sale, the Ford Transit Connect Van consistently sells out. The van is currently the top-selling vehicle in its segment with over 23,000 units sold within the first eight months of 2017. This highly in-demand van holds 42 percent of the market share among compact vans and has remained a favorite of discerning drivers across the country for years. That success is due in part to the current model’s stellar powertrain.

The current Transit Connect van comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine capable of producing 169 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. If that’s not enough for you, the vehicle also comes with an available turbocharged 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine option which generates up to 178 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Both engine options are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission for maximum capability.

Notably, the new Transit Connect van will be the first of its kind to include a newly-expanded range of tech features and upgrades. The vehicle will come standard with Ford’s industry-first MyKey programmable ignition key, allowing drivers to preset warnings, limit vehicle speed, and limit the entertainment system’s maximum volume. The van will also come with Ford Telematics, a system which enables a centralized logistics leader to simultaneously monitor multiple vans in real-time to keep track of productivity and efficiency. This time, Ford has made serious strides to keep the needs of small businesses, tradesmen and commercial fleets in mind when it comes to tech components.

The next-generation Ford Transit Connect Van will debut soon at a Ford dealer near you as part of the 2019 model year lineup. For more information on Ford commercial vans for sale or to find out when the new Transit Connect Van will be available to order, visit us at Pilson Ford. 2018 Lincoln MKX Spotted in Michigan with All-New Grille

The 2018 Lincoln MKX is coming to a Lincoln dealer near you soon, but before it arrives we thought we’d let you know what you can expect from this exciting new vehicle. With Lincoln’s recent lineup shake-up, fans aren’t sure what the new 2018 models will look and feel like. Pilson Ford is here to reassure you that the 2018 Lincoln models for sale will be some of the best you’ve ever seen.

We’re confident enough to make that claim because the 2018 Lincoln MKX SUV was recently spotted at the automaker’s testing headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The newly redesigned model was only visible for a few minutes, but spy photographers were able to capture a few shots that reveal major upgrades to the vehicle’s exterior.

One of the most obvious changes is to the MKX’s grille–the new 2018 model will favor a modern, chrome mesh grille over the previous model’s quirky “butterfly” grille. If the photos are any indication, the vehicle’s entire front fascia has been revised. We spotted new headlights and reworked front bumpers but time will tell if further changes are in the cards.

The prototype in the spy photos is heavily camouflaged with a black and gray geometric design so visible details are kept to a minimum, but Lincoln experts predict that further changes might mimic best-in-class vehicles from the likes of Jeep and Hyundai. Fans speculate that the redesigned front fascia of the MKX will draw heavily from the two-tier headlight design we’ve recently seen on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Hyundai Kona. We can’t confirm those changes at the moment but check back soon for more detailed updates.

We still don’t know what the 2018 Lincoln MKX might look like on the inside but we do have confirmation from Lincoln insiders that the vehicle will receive some light updates. It’s possible that we’ll see the addition of some updated safety features like automatic emergency braking. We know that a Black Label special edition of the MKX is in the works so it’s absolutely possible that a fully upgraded safety suite will be available for that higher-end variant.

In order to compete with cars like the Cadillac XT5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Porsche Macan, the 2018 Lincoln MKX will continue to be powered by a stellar lineup of EcoBoost V6 engines. Plans appear to be in the works for an entry-level four-cylinder variant to be included in some trim levels. We’ll have to wait until the vehicle’s official debut at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show for more concrete information.

Visit your favorite Mattoon Lincoln dealer to find out more about this fantastic new SUV. At Pilson Ford, we’ve got all the latest details on when the 2018 Lincoln MKX will be available near you.

2018 Ford Expedition for sale

The 2018 Ford Expedition is Ford’s Most Powerful SUV Model

It’s been over twenty years since the Ford Expedition–one of the industry’s top SUV models and Ford’s largest available SUV–got a makeover. But this year, Ford has gone all out with a fresh redesign of the classic vehicle that stays true to its roots while adding some modern touches that Mattoon Ford dealer fans are sure to go crazy for.

The 2018 Ford Expedition’s exterior will look familiar to fans but its updated styling is definitely a welcome change. Overall, the vehicle’s dimensions are slightly larger than previous models thanks to a lengthened wheelbase that’s been stretched a full four inches and widened by one inch. However, Ford has used some clever tricks to enhance the vehicle’s efficiency and handling capabilities despite the new Expedition’s larger size. Aluminum and high-strength steel body panels help decrease the vehicle’s weight by over 300 pounds. Skeptics take note: the weight change is definitely noticeable by drivers and makes the new Expedition feel sportier than any previous model.

Inside, the 2018 Ford Expedition has the honor of being the first full-size utility vehicle to feature a sliding second-row seat with tip-and-slide functionality. This handy feature provides passengers with easy access to the third row without having to first remove a child safety seat. It seems like a small thing, but growing families know that any feature that facilitates easier passenger loading (especially when you’re dealing with small children) is a blessing.

As always, the Expedition is one of the roomiest vehicles you’ll ever have the pleasure of riding in. There’s ample head-, hip- and legroom in every single seat and the vehicle’s second- and third-row seats can be folded flat with the push of a button to create a cargo area large enough to handle camping gear, construction materials or even furniture.

The 2018 Expedition is powered by Ford’s ultra-powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine paired to an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The combination of the two will you get you roughly 375-horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, making the new Expedition the automaker’s most powerful model ever.

Notably, the new vehicle is also stuffed full of best-in-class technology including advanced safety features like active lane control, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind spot monitors, a surround view camera system and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. That final new feature makes backing up a trailer a piece of cake thanks to 360-degree camera views that help guide parking and turning maneuvers.

To find an available 2018 Ford Expedition near you, look no further than Pilson Ford. We’ve got the latest Ford models for sale today and we’re ready and waiting to take you for a test drive whenever you’d like.

New, Forward-Thinking 2018 Ford Ecosport

As some timely new photos are going to show, it’s looking like the intrepid Ford Ecosport’s recent facelift for its 2018 U.S. debut has got it primed and ready for an occasion to remember. Already making plenty of waves in worldwide markets over the last decade-plus as a boldly progressive take on the compact SUV, the Ecosport definitely puts its money where its nameplate is by combining leading energy efficiency and compact utility with some truly satisfying performance capability. With the first U.S. models set to arrive in a matter of months, there’s no better time to get up to speed on what to expect when there’s a 2018 Ford Ecosport available at a Mattoon Ford dealer near you soon.

A World-Class Reputation

Originally making its name in Brazil as a consistent leader in its class, and ultimately expanding to find similar success across Latin America, India, China, and Europe, the Ecosport has seen plenty of action and proven itself many times over before becoming a familiar name to U.S. drivers. Primed for landfall here in the U.S. with an attractive update that’s looking likely to draw plenty of attention and, dare we say, duplicate its demonstrated worldwide success with little hesitation, the new Ecosport has already got a front row spot carved out in the showroom here at Pilson Ford!

Proof of Big Things in Small Packages

Offering a smooth and sculpted yet compactly muscular package, the 2018 Ecosport arrives full of considerate features and accommodations, including the Ford SYNC connectivity system with voice command, electronic stability control and rear parking sensors, and a specially redesigned dashboard console updated to include a new Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-friendly 8-inch floating touchscreen interface. Immediately offering more than most of its compact and subcompact competition in terms of engines, the 2018 Ecosport also presents potential drivers with the choice of a sprightly, efficiency-maximizing 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder or a nimble 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. In following with the other Ecosport models of recent, though, it’s more than likely that a diesel option is soon to follow as well.

Arriving Sooner Than Later!

It looks like the first overseas shipments of the updated 2018 Ford Ecosport are already underway to North America, with U.S. models set to debut in the coming months wherever there are Ford vehicles for sale. With more than a decade of proven history and top sales under its belt, we think it’s more than likely that the forward-thinking Ford Ecosport will be finding similar success in the U.S. soon. As always, you can find out all you need to know and stay up on the coming news, right here at your reliable Mattoon Ford dealer, Pilson Ford!

New, Mysterious Ranger Vehicle from Ford May be a Ranger Raptor Truck

If you’re anything like the team at Pilson Ford, you’ve been waiting with bated breath for the new Ford Ranger which is slated to hit dealerships in 2019. Ford has been careful not to release too much information on the forthcoming Ranger, but new spy photos released online on the Australia-based CarAdvice website earlier this month may reveal some tantalizing information.

Although a new Ranger has been available for some time now in Europe, the 2019 Ranger we’ll be getting stateside is a whole different animal. Newly leaked spy shots reveal that Ford’s newest vehicle in the Ranger lineup will be smaller than its world-famous F-150. The word around your local Mattoon Ford dealerships is that the new Ranger could actually be a new Ranger Raptor.

The truck in the photographs is heavily disguised in black and white maze-like camouflage but we can still eke out the details of its prominent features: massive fender flares, short overhangs and what appears to be a skid plate. Those signs support the argument that what we’re looking at is really a Raptor version of the Ranger.

Not convinced? Here’s some more evidence: Ford trademarked the Ranger Raptor and the Ranger FX4 names with various governments in 2015. The Ranger FX4 is already in production, leaving the Ranger Raptor’s destiny unfulfilled.

The truck in the photos even features a front bumper, tow hook and skid plate that draw big-time design inspiration from the F-150 Raptor. And these design components aren’t just for show–the bumper’s design gives the truck an impressive approach angle for off-road driving and its steel composition makes it immune to abusive, rough terrain.

The camouflaged truck even borrows its grille from the F-150 Raptor–discerning Ford fans will recognize the blocky “FORD” lettering as a Raptor-specific signature.

Ford experts seems to think that the Ranger Raptor will have steel running boards along its sides to help make entering and exiting the vehicle’s cab even easier. The running boards would also serve as rock sliders that protect the rocker panels. It’s tough to determine if these are present in the current incarnation we see in the photos, but we think it’s a safe bet that they’ll be included.

For now, no one has caught a glimpse of the 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor’s interior so go ahead and let your imagination run wild. We predict that the new Ranger Raptor will get all the usual tech and styling upgrades that you’ve come to expect from the brilliant minds at Ford.

To get a feel for the current Ford Ranger, drop by your favorite Mattoon Ford dealer today. At Pilson Ford, just a short drive away from Tuscola, IL, we’ve got the scoop on this and all of the current Ford models for sale.

Ford EcoSport Receives Makeover for 2017

The 2017 Ford EcoSport has received an exciting new makeover and is ready to finally hit dealerships. The vehicle's upgrades and new additions will help cement its reputation as one of the most capable and fun to drive vehicles in the Ford lineup.

Overall, the EcoSport's silhouette will remain the same but the vehicle will feature some truly thrilling new changes when it comes to its styling and interior. The subcompact SUV will get a bolder and wider grille to replace its original front fascia styling and will sport some refreshed headlamps. New alloy wheels will adorn both the front and back of the vehicle and the rear fascia will receive some light design retouches.

The true facelift is slated to occur inside the EcoSport. The vehicle will get a new touchscreen unit that comes equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as Ford's new SYNC 3 infotainment system. The EcoSport's dashboard will receive a makeover to introduce horizontal AC vents, a new center console and a new three-spoke steering wheel.

Under the hood, the EcoSport will mostly remain the same. The 2018 model will come with one of three options: a 1-liter EcoBoost gas engine, a 1.5-liter Ti-VCT gas engine, or a 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine. Transmission options will range from a 5-speed manual to a 6-speed DCT automatic.

The EcoSport is an absolute all-star of a vehicle and has become known for its hip flair ever since it became the first vehicle ever to debut on Snapchat. Ford has consistently marketed the subcompact SUV as the perfect vehicle for young people seeking efficiency as well as style.

"More people are choosing to spend their time and money sharing experiences with friends and family instead of buying more stuff," said Chantel Lenard, executive director of Ford U.S. marketing, in an interview. "[The] EcoSport fits perfectly into this growing lifestyle. It's our smallest SUV, packed with features and personality."

EcoSport drivers and passengers are guaranteed to enjoy a fun, social experience since the vehicle was designed by Ford specifically for that purpose. Ford's acoustic engineers spent hundreds of hours perfecting the car to make sure it produces a stellar sound experience and Ford's designers ensured that the seats and textiles inside the EcoSport exude stylish comfort. The car is also ripe for personalization—buyers can choose between 10 exterior color choices, seven ambient lighting options and four trim level offerings.

To find out more about the 2017 Ford EcoSport or to test drive one of Ford's other SUV models, visit your favorite local Mattoon Ford dealer today. Pilson Ford has this and plenty of other excellent Ford vehicles for sale on the lot. We'd be happy to help you find the right Ford for you.

Upgraded Focus RS Reestablishes Ford’s Dedication to World-Class Performance

Despite being so well known for its dedication to excellence in producing some of the world’s best known and most widely successful cars and trucks, the Ford Motor Company also still manages to find time to aim its exemplary expertise toward a regular lineup of highly specialized, limited, and unusually high-performance vehicles as well. While this is no news to Ford enthusiasts, who have been singing the company’s praises in its approach to uncommon segments like street trucks and performance-enhanced small cars for many years, it may still come as something of an eye-opener for average drivers, making it clear just how multifaceted Ford’s efforts truly are these days.

A Crowd-Sourced Creation

Now, in taking the advice of those knowledgeable Ford fans to heart, the leading automaker has announced the impending arrival of a new variation on an old favorite that’s sure to remind fans of uncommon segments that Ford isn’t stepping back from the exciting world of experimental, outlandish design anytime soon. Putting quite a bit of energy into researching the ideas and suggestions made by fans in online forums and on social media, Ford is now clearly eager to deliver a crowd-sourced, ultimate version of its fan favorite Focus RS. It’s only planned for a very limited U.S. release, so fans of Ford’s dedicated performance entries will do well to keep up with relevant news here at our blog.

A Proper Victory Lap

Featuring everything that’s already established the Ford Focus RS as a favorite among fans of performance oriented, aftermarket-ready small cars, the upcoming special edition promises to bring some serious additions and upgrades to an already winning formula. Also standing as a well-known icon of rally and other motorsport applications, this new version of the RS is clearly much less an attempt to ‘improve’ than it is a love letter from Ford to the loyal cadre of Focus fans out there. As usual, Ford demonstrates without question that its heart remains in the right place no matter how much success it finds, always reserving more than a fair share of its attention for fans and everyday customers.

How to Improve a Champion

On first glance, prospective new RS drivers can look forward to unique graphics and exterior color schemes, model-exclusive body details including spoiler, mirror caps, 19-inch alloy wheels, and carbon fiber handle wraps, just to get things started. Inside the cabin, carbon fiber accents abound, finishing off the upgrade started with the inclusion of leather and suede microfiber bucket seats by Recaro. To make the new, limited Focus RS a truly complete update package, Ford will also include a top-of-the-line Quaife limited-slip front differential, guaranteed to further maximize model’s world-class all-wheel drive handling by improving the car’s ability to send extra torque to the wheel(s) with the best traction.

The 2017 Ford F-150 Finds No Trouble In Upholding Long-Running Popularity

There can be no doubt that the Ford F-150 has truly set the standard for modern trucks, outselling the competition over and over again for more years than we can count on eight hands! The 2017 Ford F-150 is no exception, leading the full-size truck segment into a bright future as always. This time around, new attention continues to be paid to the fuel efficiency, comfort, and technological features of Ford trucks, as well as to the enduring challenge of maintaining Ford toughness, power, and reliability all at the same time. It’s just the sort of challenge that gets Ford engineers’ motors running, so you can bet that the F-150 is dead set on holding on to its top honors for some time to come.

Singular Design

Currently, the F-150 stands as a unique entry in the full-size pickup class, despite its talent at defining the standard. A recently-introduced aluminum body design has helped it to shed some weight and gain efficiency, while the celebrated EcoBoost V6 stands as a singular turbocharged powerhouse in comparison to the competition. The combination has also played no small part in helping the 2017 F-150 to achieve best-in-class towing numbers. There’s little question as to the proven effectiveness of this standout combo, and it’s no wonder why it helped the F-150 to be last year’s most popular truck in 22 individual states according to trusted Kelley Blue Book analysis.

Always Evolving

Despite the F-150’s continued sales successes, Ford continues to find ways to increase its appeal to a wider market. 2016 alone saw a 5% increase in the sale of Ford’s F-Series trucks. Certainly, one of the big reasons that the F-Series continues to find new fans is Ford’s dedication to considerately integrating new features and technology while never compromising its value for the essential truck basics that have upheld its success for so long. Recently, a host of entertainment and safety features continue to fill out the ideal F-150, featuring top of the line interactive entertainment and driver information systems as well as plenty of smart, automated safety features to give you and yours an extra sense of confidence in one of the toughest and most versatile vehicles around.

There’s Still Only One Best!

Other leading-edge features this year include in-vehicle Wi-Fi, multiple cameras with pedestrian and cross-traffic sensors, and plenty more details you may not have expected from a very work-ready full-size truck. As always, familiar Ford toughness and reliability is still well intact, and you can be sure that the F-150 is ready to take on just about anything you can throw at it. We’ll be happy to set up a personal meeting with this truly leading model anytime you’re ready to see why it’s consistently recognized as the best of the best, right here at Pilson Ford!

Mattoon Lincoln Dealer

About five years ago, Lincoln branched off from Ford to establish itself in the automobile industry as the luxury arm of the American brand. It developed its own product development, unique design and sales teams in efforts to unveil new vehicles under its name.

After having seen a dip in sales over the last decade, Lincoln’s plans to reintroduce Lincoln as its own separate division are paying off.

In 2014, the U.S. car company experienced a 16 percent increase due to the number of MKC crossovers being purchased in the U.S. alone. By 2015, the brand saw a 7.1 percent jump in 2015 having sold more than 100,000 vehicles, while last year, it boasted a 10 percent increase in sales.

Experts attribute this mainly to the success of the MKC crossover which also led to the brand’s first two-year streak of sales increases in almost a decade.

Like many of us here at Pilson, you might remember last year when Lincoln debuted the concept version of the Navigator at the New York International Auto Show – along with two massive gull wing doors, a seven-screen instrument panel, custom wardrobe management system and Teakwood “concertina” staircase.

The audience of onlookers looked on in awe and amazement as the full-sized SUV rolled across the stage showcasing its extravagant amenities – though we realized early on many of these larger-than-life features would never really make it to production.

But according to Lincoln president Kumar Galhotra, the Navigator’s grand display was part of the company’s plan to “help people reimagine a luxury SUV,” and was intended to only add a dramatic effect to its presentation.

Fast forward to 2017 and many of the same design elements have surprisingly managed to make their way into the production version.

Taking styling cues from its distant cousin the Ford Expedition, this SUV is lighter and roomier than its predecessors. On the outside, a new aluminum body frame shaves nearly 200 pounds from its weight, its large, inset chrome grille unapologetically commands attention, LED taillights expand the width of the gate in the rear, optional radial 22-inch wheels, available power- deployable running boards, LED lighting, detectable range and auto-folding side mirrors are just a few of goodies to expect from this full-size vehicle.

Inside, the new Navigator boasts Expresso & Alpine leathers and Silverwood trim, 10 inch screens for both second and third row passengers, 30-way power-adjustable Perfect Position seating with heating, ventilation and massage, optional panoramic sunroof, electronic power-assisted steering, three chamber front center console, available cordless inductive charging, LED illuminated cup holders and safety belt buckles, best-in-class custom cargo space, a Revel II premium sound system with 20 speakers and three listening profiles named Stereo, Audience, and On Stage and more.

In terms of power, the 2018 Navigator gets a twin-turbocharged, 3.5 liter, V-6 engine capable of 450 horsepower. This is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission perfect for hauling the vehicle’s massive body around, while maximizing fuel economy with a start/stop engine system.

Ford Mustang’s Global Presence Increases with 2018 Model

Long-time lovers of the Ford Mustang know that all the praise heaped on the vehicle is well-deserved. If anything, it deserves even more acclaim than it already receives. That’s why it’s so exciting to see the Mustang receive a little extra love in the international market. According to the most recent reports, Ford’s most iconic vehicle seems to be flourishing ever since the automaker okayed its expansion into the international market.

According to Ford, the Mustang’s global sales climbed to over 150,000 units last year, an increase of more than 6 percent compared to 2015. Internationally, Ford sold more than 45,000 Mustangs, an increase of 101 percent.

“The legacy of Mustang continues to grow, and in places it never reached before,” Mark Schaller, Ford Mustang marketing manager, said in a recent statement. “We continue to make it available in new markets, and drivers in those markets continue to respond with resounding approval.”

The jump in sales is all part of a plan masterminded by former Ford CEO Alan Mulally. Before his departure, Mulally announced plans in 2012 to eventually bring the Mustang into the European market. Initially, the plan seemed like a big risk but the power of the Mustang awakened globally sustained interest. By 2015, Ford began shipping the vehicle overseas to immediate success. Ever since, international sales have accounted for a substantial portion of the Mustang’s overall growth.

The Mustang’s success has helped bolster Ford’s dominance at home and abroad. Last year, Ford sold 6.6 million vehicles worldwide–2 percent of those were Mustangs. Still, that 2 percent represents a huge margin in the sports car market.

The Mustang was the best-selling sports car in the world in 2016, a title that was driven largely by big sales gains in Germany and China, as well as the vehicle’s introduction in smaller markets like New Caledonia, Gibraltar and Bonaire. Sales have continued to steadily climb; in 2016, Mustang sales were up over 74 percent compared to 2015.

Out of all the Ford models for sale, the Mustang is consistently a crowd favorite. The Mustang is even the most-liked vehicle on Facebook with over 8.4 million “likes.” Today, you can snag one of those beloved sports cars in 140 countries across every continent except Antarctica. The 2018 Mustang will be introduced in six new countries, including Brazil, the Palau Islands and the Ivory Coast.

With its athletic styling and updated front and rear design, the 2018 Mustang is sure to break even more records. To find out why the Mustang is one of the world’s best-selling cars, stop by your favorite Mattoon Ford dealer. Pilson Ford has multiple Mustang models available today, just waiting for you to test drive.

Innovative Ford GT Supercar to Debut in 2020

Finally, the vehicle that smashed records at Le Mans will be available for purchase by everyday drivers. Ford announced last month that it will release an all-new Ford GT in 2020. The new GT will become a part of Ford’s performance lineup, joining the likes of the Focus RS, F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R. Production will begin on the GT in the winter of 2019.

“As we at Ford drive innovation into every part of our business, it’s worth remembering that our first innovation as a company was not in the laboratory, but on the racetrack,” Mark Fields, Ford president and chief executive officer, said in a recent statement. Fields was referring to Henry Ford’s 1901 Le Mans win which inspired financial backers to invest in his burgeoning company.

“We are passionate about innovation through performance and creating vehicles that make people’s hearts pound,” Fields continued.

The new Ford GT will be different than any vehicle we’ve seen so far from the renowned automaker. This fresh supercar will feature rear-wheel drive, a mid-mounted engine, and a hyper-modern, aerodynamic, two-door coupe body design. Under the hood, the GT will reportedly sport the most powerful EcoBoost production engine of all time: a next-generation twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine capable of producing over 600 horsepower.

To ensure that the GT is as aerodynamic as possible, the vehicle will largely be made of lightweight materials–mainly carbon fiber and aluminum. These super-light materials will significantly ramp up the GT’s performance, enabling remarkably quick acceleration and intuitive, agile handling. With the application of these and other technological and engineering advancements, the GT will have one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car ever.

Most exciting of all is the recent announcement that all of these advanced materials will soon appear throughout Ford’s product line. The automaker plans to incorporate the building components developed for the GT into all of its vehicles to improve their performance, efficiency and overall capabilities.

“The GT is the ultimate execution of an enthusiast supercar,” Raj Nair, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development, said in a statement. “The GT includes innovations and technologies that can be applied broadly across Ford’s future product portfolio–another proof point that Ford continues raising the performance bar while ultimately improving vehicles for all of our customers.”

“While we hope enthusiasts rejoice about this all-new GT, all Ford customers will benefit from the ultimate performance of Ford and its next-generation innovations,” Nair said.

While you await the arrival of the Ford GT and all of the groundbreaking innovations that come with it, come visit us at Pilson Ford today. We’re happy to answer all of your questions and point you in the direction of comparable vehicles.

2017 Ford Escape Beats out Toyota RAV4

For what it is worth, people love their compact SUVs at the moment. That is to say, the segment seems to be going over extremely well in the current automotive client. This being the case, it can sometimes be quite hard to hash out, if you will, the pros and cons of any given compact SUV in the hopes of finding the perfect vehicle for you. This can become especially difficult seeing as the compact SUV segment is just filled to the brim with top-tier products. Case in point: the 2017 Ford Escape and the 2017 Toyota RAV4. Both of these vehicles are very much worthy of your time, but which one is the best? Well, let’s take a look.

Let’s start by comparing the base price of both vehicles. The RAV4 starts at around $24,910, which is around the mean of the compact SUV segment. The 2017 Escape, on the other hand, is considerably less, starting out at around $23,750. Now, at first glance, this does not seem like a very big difference, but trust me, your bank account is going to very much appreciate that extra $1,160-or-so. But still, that is not a factor to officially call this one for the Escape, so let’s move on to safety.

The 2017 Ford Escape and the Toyota RAV4 both exceed expectation here. In fact, both of these vehicles earned a five-star overall rating from the National highway Traffic Safety Administration. Still, the Escape beat out the RAV4 on frontal crash tests. Too, the Escape comes standard with a rearview camera and can be upgraded to include the likes of front and rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, drowsiness monitoring, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, and automatic pre-collision braking. All this is a very big deal when it comes to the safety concerns of most of us, so the Escape is starting to edge the RAV4 here.

Finally, let’s look at the kinds of technology each vehicle is boasting. Now, this is where things get a bit difficult, because both the Escape and the RAV4 are serious technological wonders. However, simply put, the 2017 Ford Escape offers one of the most high tech interior cabins in the compact SUV segment. Hands down. Given these few factors, it is safe to say that the 2017 Ford Escape edges out Toyota RAV4 in this battle for top honors in the compact SUV category.

As is always the case, keep checking back in over here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to all your Ford needs. All About the 2018 Ford Fiesta

The Upcoming 2018 Ford Fiesta ST: A Redesign That Definitely Deserves a Party

After six generations and over 40 years of hard work on both establishing and continuously redefining the subcompact class, the veteran Ford Fiesta continues its vigorous evolution this year with an all-new seventh generation model, as well as plenty of attention-grabbing variations. Demonstrated to be larger, safer, more energy-efficient, and more spacious than its predecessors, it’s already looking like Ford has put some of their best recent ideas to work making the 2018 Fiesta much more than just business as usual.

A Fresh (and Sporty) Fiesta!

Having made its proper debut at the just-wrapped 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the feisty new 2018 Fiesta ST shows that this familiar staple has clearly made some bold strides since the last time around. There’s a decided push toward cargo-friendly sportiness in the new profile, lending a powerful, almost rally-ready fierceness to the new design, and the ST model foregrounds these characteristics without a doubt. Recaro seats and a race-ready flat-bottom steering wheel only complete the image of a truly reimagined Fiesta. All in all, this old dog seems to be more than ready to show off some new tricks at Ford dealers across the country soon.

Stepping Up Performance

A new look certainly isn’t all there is to enjoy, and with the details now freely flowing from Ford headquarters, we’ve got a solid look at exactly what to expect under the skin of the new Fiesta ST. Firstly, Ford has planned for the 2018 Fiesta ST to be the first to host its new, efficiency-focused 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine design. Replacing the old 1.6-liter four-cylinder doesn’t automatically mean a loss of power – in fact, the new engine matches its predecessor in terms of horsepower (197) and even tops it in terms of torue (213 to the four’s 202). Also adding to the new engine’s ability to maximize efficiency is a freshly-minted cylinder deactivation system, which limits cylinder usage during light duty.

New Driving Modes

Enhancing the impression of the Fiesta as a more performance-oriented vehicle, a new drive mode system has been introduced to allow for drivers to choose between different response settings including transmission settings, steering, stability support, and active exhaust. For those eager to let loose on an open road, the Sport setting provides more direct acceleration and steering responses, while the Track setting loosens the intervention of traction and stability controls.

Arriving Soon!

With these new additions in mind, it’s clear that the 2018 Ford Fiesta ST is looking to rise to some remarkable heights. Providing performance, comfort, utility, and plenty of cherry-on-top customizable options including shifter, dashboard, and door handles, we’ve got no doubt in our minds that taking a close look at the 2018 Ford Fiesta ST with fresh eyes is going to leave you feeling very pleasantly surprised. Learn about the new Fiesta, the upcoming Fiesta ST, and when you can expect to see them in person, right here at the only Ford dealer you need to consider – your local Pilson Ford!

2018 Ford F-150

What Folks are Saying About the New 2018 Ford F-150

The buzz with regard to the new 2018 Ford F-150 is going around, and it’s a wealth of good news. Here are some of our favorites.

“In terms of appearance, the truck’s entire face will go under the knife—the grille, lamps, fascia panel, and bumper are all new. (The hood and fenders are unchanged.) We should say grilles, as the F-150 has always offered more factory-optional grilles than the entire aftermarket provides for Chrysler 300s. Seven new tools will produce what seems like double that number of different grille looks, considering the many different finishes (molded black, painted argent, chromed, nickel-finished, body-colored, and combinations of the above). A common theme in most of them is a switch from three narrow bars to two fatter ones. Twin I-Beam is the vintage suspension-evoking nomenclature design boss Gordon Platto uses to describe the look, though there’s nothing I-beamish about them. They do stretch wider, extending into the headlamps to provide a wider look. The bumper now dips down to accommodate the grilles, and a new body-color fascia panel separates the grilles from the bumper,” notes Motor Trend’s Frank Markus.

“The king of trucks just gets better. The grille ditches Ford’s signature three-bar for a wider, ‘double I-beam’ take. Nice, except the base models get grille ‘nostrils.’ Ugh. I’d jump straight to the handsome Lariat trim. Under the aluminum hood, Ford’s smorgasbord of engine choices gets the first diesel in the light duty’s long history. The hits keep on coming: Wi-Fi hot spot, pre-collision assist, smartphone connectivity, new wheels and . . . I could go on all day,” said Henry Payne from The Detroit News.

“In the rear, the 2018 F-150 also gets new lighting elements, but the changes are more subtle—there is now a split between the upper and lower portion of the element, whereas before it looked to be all one piece. What’s more noticeable is the restyled tailgate, which comes in two varieties. The lower trim levels will get a creased trapezoid look with F-150 embossed across the lower portion (it seems the badges weren’t big enough for some people to notice). On King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trucks, the embossing goes away and a fancy appliqué covers most of the upper portion of the tailgate. The decision to omit the embossing on those trucks apparently came late in the game, as a rendering we saw at Ford HQ had them both. The F-150’s chief designer said the combination of the stamped name and shiny trim looked too busy. We agree,” said David Gluckman over at Autoblog.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to the new 2018 Ford F-150. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help find the perfect vehicle for you!

Upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang Makes a Strong Case for the Future of Classic Muscle

Despite the emergence of an increasing popular young class of new-age muscle cars lately, few American performance classics can still make as much of a claim to being the ultimate muscle icon as the incomparable Ford Mustang. Holding the production performance segment down for decades (while standing as its best-seller the whole way), even while classic muscle-influenced designs took an extended backseat in favor of some interesting new profiles, the Mustang now re-emerges to reclaim its rightful title at the top of the American muscle pantheon amidst an expanding range of like-minded designs. With plenty to anticipate in terms of considerate updates for the upcoming 2018 Mustang, too, you can bet that we’re more than pleased to fill you in on all that you can look forward to, both familiar and unexpected.

First Impressions

Recently strutting its stuff at a series of first looks at national and international auto shows, the upcoming 2018 Mustang definitely stands as the subject of some interesting adjustments, and further details from company officials have helped us to get a full picture of what to expect. First and foremost, visual changes are immediately apparent, lending a much more rounded shape to both the rear and front ends. The result is decidedly smoother, perhaps surprisingly in regard to recent designs from competitors, and a bit more on the aerodynamically sleek side than the sharp, angular one generally shared by traditional pony designs and their recent reincarnations. Add to that some trim new LED lamps for both the front and back, and what we’ve got is a decidedly futurist profile that maintains the essential feel of a classic white-knuckle pony car.

Under the Hood

Beyond the compelling cosmetic adjustments, Ford also brings lots of new options and details to bear on the refreshed 2018 Mustang. Excited fans can look forward to improved performance from tweaks being performed on the Mustang GT’s infamous 5.0-liter V8, reportedly providing boosts to both low-end torque and high-end power as well as overall fuel economy. Those in the know about Ford won’t be too surprised to see the continuation of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost option, but may be pleased to hear that it will also be receiving overboost upgrades to provide for better acceleration. Both options will be joined by a fresh 10-speed automatic transmission, which Ford also says it has specifically designed to improve both feel and efficiency.

Arriving Fall 2017!

Continuing to leverage the best of the past to forge an ideal path to the future of automotive excellence, Ford has clearly been putting its all into the new generation of Mustang, which in our opinion definitely stands to uphold its defining legacy in ways both traditional and forward-thinking. Keep an eye out here for plenty more news as we await the arrival of the 2018 Mustang this fall, and don’t hesitate to visit us here at your local Pilson Ford to learn more anytime!

Ford Super Duty Record

Ford Super Duty Earns Flag-Pulling Record

A World Record

There are a lot of, shall we say, interesting records out there waiting to be broken, and it looks like that good folks over at Ford have done just that with regard to a previous record held by a Chevrolet pickup. That is to say, not too long ago a 2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty pickup set the record for “World’s Largest Flag Pulled by a Moving Vehicle” by pulling a 45 by 92 foot American flag along the Homestead-Miami Speedway in sunny Florida. Like we said, this pretty much shattered the previous record of a 40 by 80 foot American flag being pulled at the Texas Motor Speedway by a Chevrolet pickup. Needless to say, this is certainly a proud achievement for Ford, and one they will be officially acknowledged for in the famous Guinness Book of World Records.

Now, of course pulling the giant flag at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida certainly does classify as impressive (I am sure it was probably quite heavy for a flag), but such an achievement does not even come close to what the 2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty pickup can do. That is to say, the Ford truck pushes an astounding 925 pounds per square foot of torque, which works to land the vehicle a 21,000 pound tow rating, which, in turn, goes even further to 32,500 pounds when you happen to be using the gooseneck hitch.

A Spike in Pickup Sales?

In any event, snagging the Guinness World Record of “World’s Largest Flag Pulled by a Moving Vehicle” by pulling a 45 by 92 foot flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida is definitely something Ford wants to crow about, especially given that this was an election year and all. It is advertising at its most basic, and perhaps at its most convincing. No doubt, the automaker will see a bump in 2017 Super Duty pickup sales as a result of their flag-pulling achievement. As for the record itself—well, there has to be bigger flags out there, so Ford will have its proverbial hands full when it comes to defending their “World’s Largest Flag Pulled by a Moving Vehicle” title. We can only wait and see how long the automaker can hold the record, as well as what sorts of lengths they will seemingly go to in order to make sure they stay on top.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to all your relevant Ford information. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help find the perfect vehicle for you!

New 2018 Mustang Adds Subtle Improvements

The passage of time continues to be kind to the eternally classic Ford Mustang, and the anticipation that surrounds every new model year is certainly an easy measure of that fact. What’s more, you can bet that there’s always plenty of energy being invested by Mustang fans to uncover as much early information as possible, and this year is definitely no exception. With a little bit of hard work, it looks like some unofficial details of the upcoming 2018 Mustang have started to make their way to automotive industry news outlets, and though there’s still plenty left to come, we’ve got the early scoop on exactly what Mustang lovers and performance vehicle enthusiasts can expect from the upcoming debut.

The Next Generation

Rolling on with the successful sixth generation of the Mustang, the 2018 model is looking to make some subtle changes that still go a long way in hinting at the continued evolution of the flagship of American muscle. Some rather big changes seem to be underway, so while some present changes may be more divisive than the usual update, it’s clear that Ford maintains a clear vision for the positive growth of one of its definitive models. Of course, as the world and automotive industry change side by side, so too must the strategies that go into making even the most tradition-steeped vehicles the best that they can be.

The biggest change for 2018, and the one that’s certain to generate the most conversation among fans and critics, is Ford’s decision to drop the Mustang’s traditional V6 engine option in favor of a streamlined and turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder Eco Boost engine. Though this marks a decided break with the Mustang’s familiar configuration, it also makes sense in supporting the continued evolution and application of the successful and increasingly versatile Eco Boost technology. In the end, the numbers go to show that there’s plenty to gain in performance capability and nothing to be lost but old-fashioned efficiency standards.

Despite the replacement of the V6, the 2018 Mustang’s GT variation will still come equipped with an authoritative V8 under the hood. In terms of visual updates, the new model will be receiving some subtle but effective new details. Fans can look forward to redesigned lights, fresh front and rear bumpers, exclusive alloy wheels, and some fiery new color options. Adding to an already healthy selection of optional features, the new Mustang will also be available with a next-generation adaptive suspension, a ride-enhancing ten-speed automatic transmission, and a specialized dual-exhaust system for those looking to complete the full package.

 A Fresh Update

With a fresh new update ready to make the 2018 Mustang the best of its era, interested drivers can look forward to a lot of news from Ford in the lead-up to an official debut at one of 2017’s major first quarter auto shows. Keep your eyes out here for all of the info, and don’t look any further than your local Pilson Ford for the best possible personal introduction to all of Ford’s redefining innovations!

Ford Looks to Update the Classic Expedition

We’ve got the early word on a few key changes coming to a Ford staple near you soon, as the company recently announced to a gathering of major investors that the classic Expedition full-size SUV is the most recent vehicle in its industry-leading stable to be signed up for the increasingly popular aluminum treatment.

Providing both manufacturers and drivers alike with benefits including an ideal balance between strength and weight as well as an undeniable cost-effectiveness in both the assembly process and in actual long-term driving efficiency, the update stands as an acknowledgment of a truly progressive trend. It’s not likely to be a passing phase, either, since the turn toward aluminum is clearly becoming a new norm in an industry evolving in increased consideration of modern issues like efficiency and sustainability.

Soon, the twenty-year stalwart Ford Expedition will be joining the best-selling F-150 and an increasing number of other Ford vehicles in adopting an aluminum body, a change that promises to bring a new economical balance of strength, weight, cost-effectiveness for both manufacturer and driver, and greater efficiency in terms of production and reusability.

As it stands, we’re happy to say that Ford will continue to build the new Expedition at the Ford Truck Plant in Kentucky, expanding its process to include the new materials. The switch-over to a new manufacturing system is anticipated to expand employment at the plant as well, both in the short term and long term aspects of the project. It’s no wonder why Ford gets a lot of credit for putting in the effort to keep building more cars in the U.S. than any other automaker!

Rumors abound that a new Expedition is also slated to take full advantage of Ford’s popular and award-winning EcoBoost engine designs, opting for the impressively efficient 3.5-liter V6 version that fans and critics have described as making no noticeable sacrifice in the areas of available power and towing. After doing its duty as one of the most capable SUVs on the market for so long, it seems that there are no plans to curb the practical utility that’s helped to make the Expedition a true classic.

A ride-enhancing ten-speed automatic transmission is also geared up to replace the long-serving six-speed standard, giving many speculators the feeling that some new versions of the Expedition, particularly an efficiency-maximizing 2.7-liter variant, is likely looking to be a part of the package. Either way, you can probably tell that there will be plenty of news to come about this timely transformation in the near future. Keep checking our blog for all the updates you’ll need to stay informed on the new and improved Ford Expedition, and don’t hesitate to come see us in person at Pilson Ford when you’re ready to investigate the increasing benefits that America’s top automotive company can bring to your everyday transportation needs.

Top Ford Concept Cars

There are tons of reasons automakers normally have with regard to creating and debuting a concept car. A company can either be working to allow the public and the media to get a proverbial glimpse of a future model said company is working on, using feedback to make tweaks here and there as the vehicle is moving toward production; or a company can use a concept to gauge interest with regard to a particular design; or a company can use a concept car to preview future technology they just so happen to be working on. All of these reasons serve a valid purpose in the grand scheme of things, and many companies have a rich history of incredible concept vehicles. If I were forced to pick one company, however, that usually always delivers extremely interesting concepts; it would have to be Ford. This being the case, let’s look at some of the top Ford concept cars. (Note: These are not in any particular order, but just a list of noteworthy concept cars from the American automaker.)

  1. The Airstream Concept

This extremely interesting Ford concept car was unveiled at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, and its eye-catching, very chic design was the proverbial belle of the ball that year. It was originally designed to illustrate a crossover model that was both futuristic as well as inspired by classic Airstream RVs from the 1930s. Too, Ford used it to preview a plug-in hybrid hydrogen fuel-cell system that they were (and, it is worth noting, still are) working on.

  1. The Mighty Tonka Concept

The 2002 Detroit Auto Show was full of nostalgia. We all remember playing with those familiar yellow Tonka trucks when we were growing up, and it looks like someone over at Ford did too. That is, this concept took a cue from Ford’s colossal F-350 and ran with a Tonka idea, giving the vehicle a vibrant yellow and chrome look, not to mention a new powertrain. The Tonka Concept was used primarily to show the world what the future would hold regarding Ford Heavy Duty pickup trucks.

  1. The Giugiaro Mustang Concept

This one, debuting at the 2006 LA Auto Show, was a heart stopper. The concept was a European-inspired interpretation of the 2005 model year Mustang that was thought up by world-renowned Italian designer Italdesign Giugiaro.

  1. The GT90 Concept

In a number of people’s opinion, this might be one of the best concept cars to every grace us with its presence, and its influence on Ford’s future models is unprecedented. Debuting at the Detroit Auto Show in 1995, few knew just what a huge impact the GT80 concept would have on the entire automotive industry.

  1. The GT Concept

You knew this was going to make the list. As Ford’s most recent concept, its weight on the automaker has yet to be measured, but it’s already looking quite big. The car itself is absolutely stunning, easily rivaling things like the McLaren and Lamborghini. It’s Ford’s dream supercar; let’s just all sit back and see what they do with such a thing.

Ford Looks to New Mobility Services in Anticipation of Big Changes

The Ford Motor Company has been at the heart of the American automotive industry for as long as such a thing has existed, but you may still be surprised to find out about the company’s recent plans to meet a new era head-on. Though car and truck sales are certainly still central to modern transportation, Ford executives and many industry analysts are starting to look toward some serious changes in how mobility is being addressed. With automated vehicles and the next-generation infrastructure needed to support them becoming more of a reality all the time, Ford and many of its contemporaries are finding plenty of reason to look forward to a complete overhaul of driving culture.

Last month, Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford surprised his audience by announcing a new dedication to what industry insiders are dubbing ‘new mobility services.’ In looking toward the ways in which people will be moving around in a refreshed age of both personal and public transportation, the company anticipates that a serious investment in services like ride-sharing and community shuttles could earn it an unprecedented amount of success. Ford made an impassioned point to say that this clearly demonstrates a “more nimble and forward-thinking” attitude in staying at the top of the game. Ford fans, automotive enthusiasts, and even average drivers looking to stay informed will do well to keep a close eye on what Ford has got in development!

Though the major work is still yet to come, the company has already begun its campaign of investment in new aspects of mobility, recently acquiring San Francisco’s successful Chariot shuttle service with plans to expand it into five new U.S. locales over the next year and a half. Though it’s just the beginning, this investment definitely demonstrates the seriousness of Ford’s dedication to progressive transportation.

It’s certainly not a one-sided affair, either, as company executives have already projected a possible twenty percent profit margin across the spectrum of proposed new services. That’s nothing to scoff at, either, as Ford has managed to remain at the top of the industry with a consistently-met goal of only eight percent profit margins on its cars and trucks. Through this admirable address of emerging cultural shifts, Ford is already setting a new standard for how traditional automakers stand to remain viable as the landscape begins to adapt to new demands.

Through a new subsidiary called Ford Smart Mobility, the company is sure to have lots of groundbreaking news to share in the near future. With that in mind, you can bet that we’re more excited than ever for what the future holds, and you can definitely plan to stay up to date right here at Pilson Ford. We’ll have all the news you’ll need to be in the know, as well as a warm welcome for you anytime you’re ready to get a closer look at the excellent new vehicles that have made Ford the leading automaker in America for nearly a century. Come see us any time!

Ford Boosts Horsepower in New F-150 Raptor SuperCrew

Honestly, there are few names that stir up so much intenseness than “Raptor” (“Hellcat” could certainly be up there as well). Of course, the first generation of Ford’s new high performance off-road pickup truck made a huge splash on the market last year, and this year the automaker has announced plans that show that they are already trying to take the vehicle to the next level. That is to say, Ford announced that the second generation 2017 F-150 Raptor will also be unveiled in an all new SuperCrew form. I doubt I need to tell you that this is a very big deal, indeed. Based on the aluminum-bodied F-150 SuperCrew, the Raptor SuperCrew sits on a nice 140.0-inch wheelbase, which is about a foot longer than the standard SuperCab-based model. Too, the vehicle has four front-hinged doors as well as a 5.5-foot bed that is common with regard to most SuperCrews.

Now, here is the most interesting thing about the new 2017 F-150 Raptor: That is, while Ford are a bit tight-lipped when it comes to the official output figures regarding the vehicle, there is considerable (as well as fairly credible) speculation that the 2017 F-150 Raptor SuperCrew will get a new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged engine that, granted, is smaller than the current standard F-150 Raptor, but that is undoubtedly far more powerful. This new engine will more than likely boost the Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew from 411 horsepower to an astounding 450 horsepower. All in all, that is a gain of 49 horsepower right off the bat! Too, there is also a gain of about 76 pounds per square foot of torque. “[The F-150 Raptor] was designed to be a no-compromise, off-road performance machine,” notes Matt Tranter, Ford Performance Engineering Supervisor, and with figures like those aforementioned, it will definitely be just that.

There is also a considerable weight drop with regard to the new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, with rumors stating that the vehicle’s new inclusion of aluminum will shed about 500 pounds off the overall weight. This, of course, will very much add to the increase in horsepower. And, not to mention, the new 10 gear ratios, which allow the engine to stay relatively in the sweet spot of the powerband, thus making the 2017 F-150 Raptor far quicker off the line than it was previously.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to the new F-150 Raptor. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help find the perfect vehicle for you!

2017 Ford Fiesta

The New 2017 Ford Fiesta Distills the Best of a Long & Successful Evolution

In a time when the value of compact and subcompact cars is becoming more clear than ever, the innovative legacy of the segment’s earliest forerunners is increasingly undeniable. Leading the way for small cars for over 40 years now, the Ford Fiesta stands as a great example of the kind of car that’s been setting the standard in effciency for longer than most. After six generations and a series of redesigns that have found enough repeat success to make the Fiesta one of Ford’s most consistent sellers, Ford now stands to bring the next generation of the Fiesta up to date in a very impressive way. Soon, the 2017 Ford Fiesta will be bringing the best of its wealth of experience to an all-new, remarkably stylish seventh generation of forward-thinking subcompacts.

Describing the new redesign as “mature,” the UK’s Autocar definitely highlights the fact that the new Fiesta easily sheds old perceptions of being an insubstantial vehicle that wasn’t meant for serious drivers. With a sharp, aerodynamic design that gives its hatchback profile a sleek, sporty edge, the new Fiesta brings enough fierce attitude to surprise both familiar drivers and first-timers. If you ask us, it seems more than fair to assume that the new Fiesta is looking ready to turn some new heads in its direction this year!

Available in both three- and five-door variations, the new 2017 Fiesta will make the most of Ford’s 1.0-liter, three-cylinder Ecoboost engine as well as a four-cylinder diesel option. A more considerately tuned suspension will bring a new sense of balance to ride and handling, and a host of familiar cabin technologies will remain available to complete a new and improved formula for the longtime favorite.

As the longstanding center of Ford’s compact car stable, the Fiesta has more than, as company officials have related, “earned the right to evolve.” Rather than a necessary reboot on an outdated or unsuccessful model, this year’s redesign of the Fiesta stands as a testament to the company’s desire to always keep the iconic car’s legacy as fresh as possible in its continued role as a favorite of Ford drivers. Still accounting for major percentages of Ford’s sales, particularly abroad, the Fiesta has proven time and again that it’s got much more to offer drivers than its small stature suggests.

Considering everything there already is to like about the sporty, agile new 2017 Fiesta, you can be absolutely sure that we’ll have plenty more news to share about it in the very near future. For an even better chance to get to know the new face of this longtime icon, come visit us at Pilson Ford. We’ll have everything you need to know and more, anytime!

Ford GT Super Car

Ford to Double Production Cycle of GT Supercars Due to High Demand

When Ford announced their plans to offer an absolutely gorgeous GT supercar to the public (with an asking price of $450,000, no less), the automaker also noted that, in order to purchase such a vehicle, customers would have to go through an application process and be vetted in order to be approved as significant “Ford ambassadors.” If you passed, then you had the chance to purchase the beautiful GT supercar. Ford noted that production cycle with regard to the vehicle would last no more than two years, so you had to act fast in order to get your hands on such a thing. What it does not seem that Ford were expecting, however, was, a) just how many people were going to apply for the new GT supercar; and b) just how many people were going to pass the mustard, so to speak, and be approved for the vehicle. Due to this, many people—to their dismay, of course—were put on a waiting list. However, the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the new GT supercar warmed Ford’s heart to such a degree that the automaker recently announced that they would be doubling the GT supercar’s production cycle, going from two years to four years.

At first, Ford had only planned to make about 500 GTs (estimating around 250 per year), but that has now jumped to estimates of around 1,000 GTs that will come off the line. This is such good news for all enthusiast who were relegated to the waiting list, as well as people who hesitated and, thusly, did not act in time to get a chance to purchase one of the GTs. Ford noted that the entire third year of production with regard to the GT will be reserved for those who were placed on the waiting list, while year four will be dedicated to those applicants who were deferred or who missed the initial timeframe.

“While we can’t build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors,” noted Dave Pericak, Global Director for Ford Performance. “We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand.”

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to Ford upping the production cycle of their all new GT supercar. 2017 Ford Fusion

2017 Ford Fusion Earns Five Star Safety Rating

Earning high marks with regard to the safety tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is never a bad thing, and is usually (and obviously) one of the high water marks any automaker goes after when designing a new model vehicle. Nevertheless, earning a five star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is unquestionably even more wonderful. Of course, such an honor recently went to the 2017 Ford Fusion, which received four stars with regard to the front crash test, five stars with regard to the side crash test, and four stars with regard to the rollover crash test, all of which combine for an overall five star score, which is the highest score available in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s safety rating system.

Obviously, the score is something to be proud of, as well as something buyers should absolutely consider when comparing the 2017 Ford Fusion to other vehicles such as the Honda Accord, the Nissan Altima, or the Toyota Camry. Not to mention, this five star rating applies to both the front-wheel-drive version of the 2017 Ford Fusion and the all-wheel-drive version of the Ford Fusion, as well as the 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid. It is scores like this that netted the 2017 Ford Fusion a spot on the 2016 Top Safety Pick+ list from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, receiving a score of “good” in all the Institute’s tests.

It is pretty obvious that Ford Motor Company put a ton of focus into the safety of their 2017 Fusion. I mean, just look at all the safety features that come absolutely standard with the vehicle: you have antilock brakes, electronic stability control, as well as a rearview camera. Too, there are loads of safety options that are available to you including the likes of inflatable rear seatbelts, a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning with brake support, and a pre-collision assist system with pedestrian detection.

Again, this extremely high safety rating marks the 2017 Ford Fusion as a serious competitor in an extremely tough midsize sedan market that, as aforementioned, hosts the likes of the Nissan Altima, the Toyota Camry, and he Honda Accord. What’s more, these safety test scores prove that a 2017 Ford Fusion is perfect for parents who want a little stress relief with regard to their teenagers’ first times behind the wheel of a vehicle.

As is always the case, keep check back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to the 2017 Ford Fusion. Too, while you are at it, why not come on by and sign up to test drive one of our newest lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you find your perfect vehicle!

Ford’s 2017 Super Duty Brings Gold Medal Game to the Heavy Duty Pickup Arena

There are many reasons why the pickup segment is such a tough competitive arena, of course, but one of the most easily recognizable of those is definitely the fact that truck drivers demand a lot more out of their vehicles than most average car drivers do. With a lot of those added necessities coming in the form of outright strength and other physical capabilities due to the pickup’s central role in so many everyday heavy duty tasks, the science of getting the most out of a vehicle becomes an even more multifaceted, precise effort when dealing with a truck. The record only shows, however, that if one company has always been there to lead the pickup pack, not only in outright measurable strength but in both sales and industry awards as well, it’s Ford.

Lately, Ford has rightly been sharing up a storm about its new 2017 Super Duty trucks, the latest of its ongoing efforts in perfecting the heavy-duty pickup game. With a new spec sheet full of competition-shattering numbers and a redesign complete with a fresh assortment of technological treats not offered by others in its class, the new Super Duty isn’t bothering to take things slow when it comes to raising the bar.

Sporting a wide variety of best-in-class capabilities, the 2017 Super Duty lives up to its name more fully than ever. 32,500 lbs. of hauling, 27,500 lbs. of fifth-wheel towing, and 21,000 lbs. of standard towing make this new addition to the Ford pickup fleet a serious beast of a workhorse on paper alone. With a stunning 925 lb.-ft. of torque churning out of the Super Duty’s 440 horsepower, 6.7-liter Powerstroke V8 turbodiesel, you can bet that it’s going to be a serious challenge to find anything to throw at the 2017 Super Duty that it can’t handle with ease.

Adding to what Ford has deemed the “most confidence” available in the Super Duty’s class, the new model comes equipped with a host of supportive technologies designed to make towing easier and more intuitive than ever. With details like a top-of-the-line reverse guidance system and adaptive cruise control specialized to handle large trailers, the Super Duty looks to make the process of getting the toughest work done an easier consideration than ever before.

With a convoy of Super Duty models currently making its way across the country for promotional test-driving events in 29 cities, Ford is also giving curious drivers a great chance to get a first look at everything that this remarkable new entry has to offer. You can bet that there’s plenty more to come for the 2017 Super Duty and all of the other industry-leading Ford pickups soon, so keep an eye on us here at Pilson Ford for all of the upcoming news!

New Ford Explorer

The BIG Comparison: The 2016 Ford Explorer vs. the 2016 Dodge Durango Citadel

The 2016 Ford Explorer vs. the 2016 Dodge Durango Citadel: It is a battle of the beast, and one worthy of any big monster movie fight, easily along the same lines as, say, Mothera vs. Battra, King Ceaser vs. Mechagodzilla, Gamera vs. Baragon, or King Kong vs. Godzilla. These bohemoths have battled a number of times, but the Explorer vs. Durango battle just might be bigger than all of them combined. In all seriousness, however—and Kaiju or big, rubber suite monster movies aside—how exactly do these two vehicles stack up against one another in the long run?

Well, honestly, the 2016 Ford Explorer definitely brings its proverbial A game to the table this time around. First, let’s start with the price. A base level model 2016 Ford Explorer will cost you somewhere in the ballpark of $29,964; if you fancy a bit of an upgraded package, you will be looking at somewhere along the lines of $52,970 to $55,155. This is a fairly good deal when you compare such a thing to the Durango’s base price of $30,495. Too, for the newer model Explorer, the good folks over at Ford Motor Company have upgraded the engine from a 2.0 liter to a 3.5 liter six cylinder EcoBoost at max trim levels, which generates around 365 horsepower respectively.Control has eked ahead as well, as the new Explorer garners a ton of praise for its tight handling, giving you a big vehicle that simply drives and feels very much like a small, compact car. Ford has also paid attention to the shifting components, offering a six speed automatic transmission with manual controls that work toward a seriously smooth ride.

The new 2016 Ford Explorer also comes with an upgraded touch screen system that works to sync with MyFordTouch. This gives you easy access to do things like access your phone, infotainment, map, and heating systems all from the safety and comfort of the touchscreen display. Fuel economy wise, the 2016 Ford Explorer boasts an average of 19 miles per gallon combined, which is quite nice for an SUV.

Finally, the 2016 Ford Explorer comes with a number of luxury technology, which includes but is not limited to both heated and ventilated seats that, too, can be controlled via the touchscreen display system.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to the 2016 Ford Explorer. EcoBoost engine

Success of Ford’s EcoBoost Engine Series Highlights Alternatives In Efficiency

After almost twenty years since the first widely-available hybrid cars went on sale and established the consideration of efficiency at the forefront of the automotive industry, it’s only fair to say that energy conservation and environmental impact are only things that have become even more ingrained in our collective attitude. Of course, it only makes sense, as it’s an increasing necessity in relation to most aspects of modern life as well as to transportation technology.

With that in mind, and with hybrids and an increasing amount of all-electric vehicles still garnering more buzz than most in the automotive media, you may be surprised to find out that many companies are also looking back, to a more traditional technology that’s still going to show that it can make a pretty impressive, and competitive, difference when it comes to upholding efficiency and saving drivers money at the gas pump.

As reported by USA Today, the automotive industry has done well in achieving higher standards of efficiency across the board in recent decades, making the increasingly familiar hybrid option less of a distinguished candidate in terms of conservation and energy savings. Today, there are many options for achieving higher efficiency, the most obvious and common of which is turbocharging.

In a wider attempt to establish more efficient designs beyond the pricy, specialized reach of electric technology, many makers have looked to turbocharging to aid the process, and today Ford stands as perhaps the best example of what this relatively simple and old-fashioned technique has to offer to a new generation of standards.

With Ford continuing to lead US sales in a number of segments, it only follows that the company has been one of the primary leaders in putting turbocharger technology to wider use for the sake of everyday efficiency. In only slightly more than five years’ time, the number of turbocharged vehicles being sold has increased from a meager 8% to a serious 22% of the market. Leading the way, Ford’s highly successful EcoBoost engine series, which achieves much of its advantage by employing turbocharger technology, recently celebrated hitting the one-million sales mark.

It probably doesn’t come as much surprise that the legendary Ford F-150 still leads the U.S. automotive market in overall sales, but it might be interesting to know that the award-winning EcoBoost engine series now powers approximately 60% of all F-150s sold. With that kind of field-tested performance helping to keep Ford at the top of the game, you can be sure that there’s plenty more news coming in terms of the company’s continued attention to detail when it comes to creating vehicles that are as efficient and affordable in the long term as they are powerful and reliable every day. We’ll have all of the updates, as well as a proper personal introduction to the best of today’s Ford lineup at any time, right here at Pilson Ford!

2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty

The new 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty is, well, huge. However, that does not mean that such a thing is bloated; no, on the contrary, Ford updated the 2017 F-350 Super Duty with an aluminum body, which knocks off tons of extra weight from the giant pickup. Of course, just like the 2017 Ford F-250, there are many different versions of the F-350 Super Duty for customers who are interested in the vehicle to choose from. However, there are a number of constants with regard to the vehicle. For instance, all F-350s will come standard with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that is pushed by a six-speed automatic transmission. Too, if you are interested, Ford also offers the vehicle in a 6.7-liter turbo-diesel V-8 on every model for an extra $8,595. Mainly, what you are getting for that extra money is a huge increase in towing capacity as well as an upgraded transmission, so, for all of you out there looking for a good work truck, you should certainly consider this particular upgrade.

Prices for the new 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty, of course, vary considering which model you would want. The lowest price is the Ford F-350 Super Duty XL Regular Cab, which goes for around $34,900. Here, you will get a single cab with an 8.0-foot bed and single rear wheels. Add an extra $915 for the Power Equipment package in order to gain power windows, power locks, and remote keyless entry. The XL package (for an extra $720) includes chrome front and rear bumpers, a 4.2-inch screen in the pickup’s center stack, as well as an upgraded stereo system, chrome wheel hub covers, and cruise control.

The middle of the road model would have to be the Ford F-350 Super Duty Lariat SuperCab, which will cost you around $46,300. Standard features here include things like running boards, fog lamps, a premium Sony audio system, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Sync 3 and navigation technology, two LCD monitors in the gauge cluster, eight-way power seats, leather interior trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as Ford’s reverse sensing audible alert.

And finally, the most expensive model would have to be the Ford F-350 Super Duty Platinum Crew Cab, which will run around $62,970, which is a long-bed dualie model that is also the only F-350 Super Duty trim that will be available with rear-wheel drive.

Keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to Ford’s new 2017 F-350 Super Duty. And, too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive a new F-350 Super Duty? We can guarantee to help you in any way we can.

Buckle Up For the Arrival of the 2017 Ford GT

It’s definitely no surprise that Ford’s mesmerizing new redesign of the famous GT supercar has been high on the wish lists of performance automobile enthusiasts since its dramatic debut at last year’s North American International Auto Show. For almost a decade now, the GT tag has carried on the legacy of some of the most beloved racing vehicles from Ford’s classic-era heyday and beyond, most notably the revered GT40 and the forward-thinking GT90. Now, with the newest version of the GT set to arrive soon, Ford is pulling out all the stops to bring their best performance technology to a handful of eager drivers. Unfortunately for some of them, it already looks like the demand for the 2017 GT has already far outmatched its planned production volume. For the time being, this leaves Ford with a difficult task on their hands – considering the merit of the thousands of hopeful applications that have already been received.

Now, the company begins the process of sorting through what it says amounts to over 6,500 applications, all for the sake of choosing only 500 lucky recipients for the first production run of the 2017 GT. Clearly, the new generation of Ford’s legendary racer has made something of an impression on the automotive world once again, and we’re eager to see how things shape up when it arrives late this year if all goes as planned. While it’s unlikely, it’s still yet to be seen whether or not this demonstration of overwhelming demand will be enough to get Ford to extend their production plans.

As far as available details go, the 2017 GT definitely represents a concerted effort by Ford to create a production car with an envelope-pushing power-to-weight ratio. To achieve this, the company has made extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum construction materials, with a carbon monocoque frame and carbon body paneling also adding to the car’s all-out aerodynamics. Even the GT’s windshield has been specially designed to reduce weight without compromising strength, and the company revealed that it will be made of a version of the same Corning Gorilla Glass™ that protects tempered smartphone screens.

Under the hood, an exclusive and freshly designed 3.5-liter twin turbo EcoBoost V6 provides the 2017 GT with an awesome 600 horsepower while also bringing a modern consideration to size and efficiency. As the most powerful EcoBoost engine built for production as of yet, it’s definitely going a long way in showing what Ford’s new generation of engine technology is really capable of, leaving little room for disappointment. Built for the road but still wholly inspired by the action of the racetrack, the new GT will also feature a custom, race-inspired pushrod suspension. All in all, the 2017 GT is looking absolutely ripe to carry Ford’s legacy of first-class performance design into a whole new era. You can bet that we’ll be shining a spotlight on as much of the action as possible when the 2017 Ford GT arrives for the lucky applicants soon, so keep an eye out here at Pilson Ford for more to come!

The Fresh 2017 Ford Escape Finds Plenty of Ways to Improve On Success

There seems to be no end to the popularity being enjoyed by the exceptional Ford Escape lately, and the company isn’t taking any chances in letting the sentiment die down with the arrival of the new and improved 2017 Escape this month. With the 2016 Escape already leading Ford in sales of vehicles other than its industry-leading pickups, it should be no surprise that the company has gone all out in its upgrade of the new model. Surprising drivers and critics alike with an impressive variety of new additions, the 2017 Escape is looking more than ready to pick up where its predecessor hasn’t quite left off.

For one, the 2017 Escape features a full array of new safety and driver assistance features, which proves more than ever before that a new generation of ‘smart’ vehicles is quickly becoming the new standard. There to keep up the pace of development with style, the new Escape packs it all in with room left to spare. Drivers can look forward to the 2017 model coming equipped with a collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, lane assistance and departure alert, a blind spot monitor, and parking assist.

Finding much of its success as a balanced crossover that’s well-outfitted enough to manage a family and still stylish enough to offer young drivers an affordable standout, the Escape earns appeal at every turn by considering every detail. In minding the importance of vehicle interfacing these days, Ford brings an expanded palette of technological accommodations to the 2017 Escape along with the rest of its more obvious design improvements.

A generous touchscreen placed high in the dash for better access offers connectivity through a unique combination of the SYNC 3 system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, presenting a simultaneous assortment of options that’s rare in today’s vehicles to say the least. Looking to bring some other new innovations to the table as well as to continue to meet the demands of today’s connected drivers, Ford has also included a new automatic stop and start technology, which cuts down on wasted fuel during extended idling. So far, the system has already been praised by industry critics as exceptionally effective and smoothly integrated.

But, beyond noting the standout catalogue of improvements that the new Escape presents on paper, critics have also reported first-rate experiences behind the wheel for old-fashioned hands-on research. Offering a choice between the successful young EcoBoost and a twin-scroll 2.0-liter, the 2017 Escape doesn’t just hit the marks from a modern tech perspective, but from a fundamental one as well. As it delivers an impressive slice of Ford’s best to the showroom this month, you can be sure that we’ll be on hand here at Pilson Ford to make it more than easy to get to know this excellent new addition to the Ford family, anytime you’re ready!

Has Ford Developed the World’s First Mobile Wind Tunnel?

The concept of wind tunnel testing with regard to aerodynamics has been around for quite some time. Initially created to test airplanes, the first wind tunnel was built in 1871 by Francis Herbert Wenham. However, it would take almost a century before such technology would be applied to vehicles, but once wind tunnels were introduced to the autoworld, the design did not change all that much. These usually building-sized contraptions test the aerodynamics of vehicles and usually can costs upward of a whopping fifty million dollars. That is, until very recently when Ford Motor Company announced that they have developed a patent-pending mobile wind tunnel testing system that can move from factory to factory and be assembled in approximately six hours, all for a fraction of the usual price.

“This project was born from a desire to be the best when it comes to controlling and limiting the cabin noise customers are so sensitive to,” said Bill Gulker, Ford Wind Noise Core Supervisor. “And our new mobile wind tunnel saves our engineers time and increases productivity. It’s a fine example of the innovation mindset we’re trying to incorporate into everything we do.”

Inside Ford’s mobile wind tunnel you will find two 53-foot shipping containers that are modified with aeroacoustic veins and internal ducting, which works to provide smooth, controlled airflow at the nozzle end of the contraption. Next, two 16-bladed, six-foot ducted fans (which, by the way, are each powered by a 250 horse power electric motor) work to push winds that reach up to 80 miles per hour. I know what you are thinking: this sounds so incredibly loud. Well, worry not, because, according to Ford, the entire machine only registers a minimal 75 decibels at a distance of just six feet from the testing area.

All of this, let me remind you, Ford states can be broken down within a day, shipped to wherever, and reassembled in no time flat, which might be the most impressive thing about all of this if you think about it. But, let’s not forget, the reason for this is to improve testing environments with regard to Ford’s vehicles as well as to be able to tackle any sort of hiccup with the upmost efficiency and in record time, which the company is quick to note is very much the case. “Now we’re able to detect even the subtlest noises,” said Gulker. “We can identify an area in need of improvement, have key people gather, communicate quickly, and resolve the issue without delay.”

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us Pilson Ford for more information with regard to major advancements made by Ford Motor Company that has to do with the automotive world.

Ford Provides Numerous Cameras and New Technology on 2017 Super Duty Pickups

In a pretty brilliant move, and going off the success of its tech-heavy trailer-reversing assistant for the F-150, Ford recently announced that they will bring such a technology to their new line of 2017 Super Duty trucks (e.g., the larger than life F-250 and F-350, respectively). Basing things off some statistics that state that approximately ninety percent of Super Duty pickup truck owners use their truck to pull a trailer at least once a month, Ford decided to implement what they are called Trailer Reverse Guidance, which is a combination of numerous cameras and some interesting software that work together to make backing up a trailer a much easier process.

Seeing as most Super Duty trucks lack any electric power steering (both the F-250 and the F-350 use a more classical hydraulic system), most of them do not steer as smoothly as, say, some of their smaller cousins like the F-150. Recognizing this, Ford has decided to make the 2017 line of Super Duty trucks available with seven (count them, seven) different cameras to make backing up an attached trailer far easier than such a thing used to be. There is a camera on top of the tailgate, on top of the truck itself, two wide-angle cameras located in the side mirrors, two side-view cameras, and a moveable wired camera that customers can place on the back of whatever they intend on towing in order to get a better view from that angle.

Aside from the sheer number of cameras Ford is adding to their Super Duty trucks, Ford is also offering their special Trailer Reverse Guidance software. This is a neat piece of technology that acts as a spotter for whatever you happen to be towing, making sure that you keep from messing up the reverse of the trailer too much (or even, God forbid, jackknifing entirely). Think of the Trailer Reverse Guidance, though, not as a lazy-man’s reverse—one that simply does all the work for you—and more so as a tool that simply provides you with information to keep you and whatever you are towing as safe as possible. “It’s not overbearing and it’s not taking over,” notes Jennifer Shaw, Driver Assistance Supervisor for Ford, “but it delivers extended vision and can provide a warning to the driver if they’re at risk of jackknifing.”

This new system is set to be available as an option on all of Ford’s 2017 Super Duty trucks as part of their Ultimate Trailer Tow package. Expect such a thing to go on sale later this year.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to Ford’s new Trailer Reverse Guidance technology.

The 2017 Ford Escape Leads the Charge Into a New Era for Ford Technology

If Ford seems to have been a bit behind the curve in bringing some increasingly common technological functionality to its vehicles lately, it can confidently be attributed to the company’s expressed desire to undertake the effort as considerately as possible. Exerting some patience for awhile now, the company has been quietly laying out its plans for the best opportunity to make the most of some of these modern additions, choosing to do things right rather than sacrificing in order to play catch up. Now, as the company has made official in some recent announcements, we can safely count on the upcoming generation of Ford vehicles to be expertly equipped with all of the progressive tech details that some may have found lacking lately.

In an announcement made at the end of last month, Ford officials revealed that the upcoming 2017 Ford Escape will be the first Ford vehicle to come equipped with connective functionality for personal devices through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While Ford’s SYNC platform has been capably providing up-to-date functionality for its vehicles in the meantime, and won’t be going anywhere, the ubiquity of these platforms in today’s vehicles has ensured the company’s desire to bring the most accommodating experience to life with its new arrivals.

The update will also see the new Escape playing the role of ambassador for Ford’s newest SYNC 3 system, an update which is planned to offer not only a solid underpinning for the new generation’s variety of information and entertainment capabilities, but a host added functionality as well. In concert with the all-new FordPass app platform, the 2017 Escape will be looking to introduce a new era of technological support features to Ford’s lineup, including remote start and locks, live customer service, the ability to find open parking, and a driver perk system. After the Escape brings many of these new additions to Ford dealers for the first time, company officials have made it clear that it’s only another short matter of time before other vehicles are outfitted with similar updates and a host of new options.

Already receiving glowing reviews from the automotive media, the 2017 Ford Escape is promising to up the company’s already proven-reliable SUV game in more areas than device connectivity and tech functionality, too. Ford Redoubles Its Efforts to Lead the Charge to Autonomous Technology

It may be hard for a lot of folks to imagine a future where the process of getting into the car for a drive will present the option of kicking back while a friendly autopilot takes the wheel. Naturally, we’ve been doing the work for ourselves for a long time and many of us take a certain amount of pride in it. But when it comes to the amount of driving that goes on from to day to day for the sake of routine and results rather than for the sake of engaging with the roar of the engine and the feel of the road for their own sake, it only makes good sense in terms of safety and efficiency to allow people the opportunity to automate the non-recreational time they spend behind the wheel.

Ford for one seems very confident in the possibilities of the self-driving technology that now looms on the horizon and punctuates many conversations about the most important upcoming advances in automotive technology, and the company has recently announced its plans to greatly increase its investment in related research and development. Never ones to shy away from the call to innovation, Ford seem appropriately excited about the possibilities that are sure to come with the new wave, and what it might bring to those who are bold enough to meet it head on.

The announcement of Ford’s increased investment in self-driving technology came at the recent 2016 Mobile World Congress, a technology conference in Barcelona, Spain, where Ford CEO Mark Fields presented the company’s goal to continue its longtime legacy of bringing affordable up-to-date technology to drivers of all kinds. By applying self-driving technology in ways that accommodate the needs of the average customer, he says, Ford hopes to lead the charge in making it a viable part of everyday life sooner than later. And with Fields’ stated belief that progressive technology should not be reserved “just for those who buy luxury vehicles,” along with Ford’s history of serving a very wide market, we think there’s more than just a bit of wishful thinking going on in terms of succeeding at that goal.

With plenty of similar work already going on at Ford, including a focused expansion of hybrid and electric technology, it seems that the momentum for success has already taken hold. With a long, established history in the autonomous vehicle realm, too, which counts among its accomplishments more than decade of testing and research as well as what is soon to be the largest test fleet of automated cars on the road, you can be sure that there’s going to plenty more fascinating news arriving soon about everything Ford has got in store for the near future. Check back right here at Pilson Ford for plenty more info on the exciting developments to come!

2017 Ford Fusion V6 Skips Potholes

Of course, we have all been there: You are riding down the road, in the midst of a nice drive, your friends or family along for the ride, and suddenly, out of nowhere, WHAM! you hit a pothole. Not only can this obviously be quite the jarring experience, but such a thing can also cause a fair bit of damage to your vehicle. (Damage that might not be noticeable right away but that can be fairly costly in the long run.) This is an annoying scenario that we have all gone through time and time again. In fact, so often have we been the victims of potholes that we usually are wont just to shrug such a thing off, treat it like it happens everyday, like it is no big deal. Well it would seem like the folks over at Ford are quite tired of hitting one too many potholes.

That is to say, after debuting their new Fusion V6 Sport at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Ford also announced that their new vehicle would come with dampers that, according to the automaker, could “detect potholes and automatically adjust the shocks to minimize impact.” Oh, what a dream, we all thought. How much would we all pay to never feel a pesky pothole again? But then, the skeptical consumer side of you kicks in and you think to yourself that, despite the obvious amazing breakthroughs in technology, surely never feeling a pothole again—or, better yet, that my vehicle can detect when a pothole is coming up and adjust accordingly—is a true work of science fiction, worthy of any Phillip K. Dick or Samuel R. Delany novel. Well, hold your skeptical thought, because Ford has just revealed what their new smart suspension system looks like, both visually and practically, and I have got to tell you, it is pretty remarkable.

See, the Ford Fusion’s smart suspension system works like this: dampers on the vehicle take a survey of road conditions every two milliseconds, looking for things like sudden inconsistency in ground level, which would usually indicate a pothole. If the suspension system detects a pothole, it works to stiffen the damper of whichever wheel will most likely be affected by the pothole. By doing such a thing, the new Ford Fusion’s smart suspension system allows for an altogether smooth ride, the driver or the passenger being none the wiser with regard to the fact that he or she has just ridden over a pothole.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to the new Ford Fusion V6’s smart suspension system; too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our newest models we have available on the lot? I am fairly certain you will not be disappointed!

The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Continues To Take Off-Road to the Next Level

It’s no secret that the Ford F-Series trucks have been leading their segment of the industry for almost as long as they’ve been a part of the competition, and that legacy of success comes not only as a result of the reliability and top-notch performance of the standard F-150, but also because of Ford’s ability to keep bringing exciting new special editions to the lineup to showcase the best and brightest that they have to offer niche buyers as well.  Where many special edition vehicles stand to offer cash-ins on trends and fleeting gimmicks, Ford’s own special design efforts have often gone on to become classics in their own right, positioned to satisfy an expressed desire for unusual additions to the basic aspects of a vehicle line.

One of the most beloved of Ford’s recent special edition trucks, the F-150 Raptor first emerged from the garages of the Ford Special Vehicle division in 2010, standing then as the industry’s first and only official high-performance off-road pickup as it was packed to the gills with considerate special features and still attached to a factory warranty. Somehow able to withstand the awful tempest of the late-2000s recession that made lasting impressions all across the automotive industry, the SVT Raptor continued on to become both a critical and commercial success, and now the rough-and-tumble favorite looks forward to another chance to continue its impressive progress for a new year, with plenty of new additions.

For the upcoming 2017 Raptor, much of the final plan remains shrouded in mystery. But for the time being, it’s been confirmed that the new generation of Raptor will be receiving more of its own special attention, with more dedicated architecture and a reinforced frame to set it more apart from previous models, which shared much of their foundations with other F-Series trucks. It will also be available in at least two configurations, allowing buyers to choose between a shorter, more agile SuperCab and a longer, more spacious SuperCrew. A lot of new aluminum also helps the 2017 Raptor to trim some serious weight from its previous profile, which comes in almost 500 pounds lighter than its forebears.

Replacing the old Raptor’s big 6.2-liter V8, which brought some loud and proud power to the truck’s character, will be an all-new 3.5-liter Ford EcoBoost V6 that follows the rest of the new design in focusing strongly on upgrading efficiency. Despite that turn toward some new imperatives, Ford promises that the new engine has no plans of sacrificing any of the power of the original, even hinting at an increase in horsepower and torque. With just about every imaginable improvement checked off the list for the new F-150 Raptor, you can bet that the team here at Pilson Ford will be awaiting its arrival with no plan to hide our excitement! Be sure to check back for all of the details to come on the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor and everything else yet to come this year in pushing the great F-Series legacy forward.

Ford Launching New Refreshed Vehicles in 2016

As part of a new outlook that focuses on building a vibrant and sustainably profitable business, Ford Motor Company announced recently that the company is set up to launch at least seven new or refreshed vehicles in 2016. “In the past three years, Ford of Europe has improved its business in all areas and moved from deep losses to a $259 million profit in 2015,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. “This is a good first step.”

Farley is referring here to Ford’s new European strategy, which calls for a more focused (and therefore more profitable) product line, a far more thin cost structure (which will hopefully help offset escalating regulatory costs), as well as more emotional (not to mention more experimental) brand communications. Farley continues: “We are absolutely committed to accelerating our transformation, taking the necessary actions to create a vibrant business that’s solidly profitable in both good times and down cycles.”

Ford of Europe wants to cut cost and save at least $200 million a year on a regular basis. TO do this, the company launched a voluntary separation program in Europe that supports a huge reduction in administrative and selling costs. “We are creating a far more lean and efficient business that can deliver healthy returns and earn future investment,” Farley said. “Our job is to make our vehicles as efficiently as possible, spending every dollar in a way that serves customers’ needs and desires, and creating a truly sustainable, customer-focused business.”

Noticing that the company had launched more than thirty new and/or refreshed vehicles since 2012, Ford decided to continue on this path, noting that the automaker will launch at least seven new and/or refreshed vehicles in 2016. Too, the company was quick to note an investment in Ford’s FordPass system, which allows members all sorts of access when paired with his or her Ford vehicle. “We are investing in Ford Smart Mobility, which will deepen our customer relationships and reduce our conquest market cost,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, marketing, sales, and service, Ford of Europe. “There is a huge opportunity in Europe to give our customers what they want, sometimes before they even know it, by anticipating their needs through data and data analytics.”

Of course, Ford hopes to continue to see a rise in profit as far as its sales figures are concerned. Things seem to be going in the right direction, so all that is left now is just to wait and see.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information in regard to Ford Motor Company’s decision to launch at least seven new and/or refreshed vehicles in 2016. And in the meantime check out our new inventory of current Ford models!

The Ford and Dragon Ball Z Campaign Is Definitely Something Entirely Different!

For those who don’t immediately recognize names like Master Roshi, Piccolo, and Goku, or for whom the phrase Dragon Ball Z sounds more like an absurd gameshow than a beloved Japanese comic book and animated television franchise, you’re still very likely to get a serious kick out of the unusual new Ford promotional campaign that’s currently spotlighting the 2016 Focus and Fusion models. Partnering with the Dragon Ball crew to create some downright unusual commercials, Ford definitely demonstrates some serious cultural literacy when it comes to appealing to a younger generation of drivers. Even for those not in the know, though, it’s a safe bet to say that the truly peculiar combination of Ford and this beloved Japanese cartoon is just unexpected enough to provide some memorable entertainment all the same!

For those who are fans of Dragon Ball or at least remember growing up with the series on TV, it’s still guaranteed to be a very pleasant surprise to see both camps a little out of their ordinary contexts to say the least. As viewers will remember, much of the Dragon Ball series incorporates good old-fashioned martial arts action along some fun spins on both Japanese mythological culture and light-hearted fantasy elements, and Ford has done some impressive work in finding a way to incorporate their efforts into the downright wacky atmosphere that the series is known for.

In the most recent commercial segment, two familiar Dragon Ball characters prepare to combine their efforts – literally – by using their otherworldly strength to fuse together. As it’s just another day in the world of Dragon Ball, things get underway without a hitch. In the end, though, the matter turns out a bit differently than expected. When the results of the experiment are revealed, much to the astonishment of a crowd of other well-known series regulars, the all-powerful Ford Focus stands at the ready, no doubt waiting to blast off on any kind of adventure, whether it be animated or realistic, at a moment’s notice.

It’s certainly something that no Dragon Ball fan would have ever thought possible, but it looks like Ford has managed to not only concoct a clever connection to the franchise, but to also somehow make the world of Dragon Ball even stranger than ever. We’re smiling just thinking about how much these truly outlandish commercials are challenging the familiar standards of promotional campaigns, particularly in the automotive world. It’s safe to say that there’s not much else out there like this at the moment, and if there’s anything to be said, it’s that this one is definitely going to be remembered as a standout part of Ford’s continuing legacy. With an invigorating year on the horizon, don’t miss a chance to stop in at Pilson Ford to learn all you need to know about everything that Ford has to offer, in this universe at least!

California Roads to be Testing Grounds for Hands Free Ford Vehicles

Ford announced last week they have obtained the necessary permit to begin test driving their full autonomous Ford Fusion Hybrid vehicles in California. Driving is slated to commence in the latter half of 2016; public highway and city driving routes have yet to be released.

Permits became available in late 2014 by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. The permits allow for the testing of autonomous vehicles on public roads within the state.  Ford isn’t the first to receive a permit in California for this particular type of testing. Other automakers have been approved for the same testing program including BMW, Bosch, Cruise Automation, Delphi Automotive, Google, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, and Volkswagen.

Ford has already proceeded to test their autonomous vehicles on the road up in Michigan as well as Mcity, a simulated urban environment created at the University of Michigan. Mcity provides an environment for automakers experiment with real world scenarios like running a stop sign. This type of testing can give a safe place for vehicles to replicated scenarios that can’t be replicated on public roads.

Back in January Ford opened the Palo Alto Research and Innovation Center. The center now houses a team of over 100 researchers, engineers, and scientists who have been busy creating things like the virtual autonomous vehicle test drive scenarios. They have also been perfecting sensors that detect and track objects in the vehicle’s view, and camera-based pedestrian detection. “Our Palo Alto team has grown significantly this year, using research and innovation to explore and develop future mobility solutions,” said Ford President and CEO Mark Fields said recently in a statement.

While autonomous rides are still some time away from becoming main stream, here at Pilson Ford we have a huge selection of vehicles for you to choose from. Stop in to see us here in Charleston today and find the perfect vehicle in time for the holidays!

What Was Ford Motor Company’s Best Vehicle in 2015?

Tons of factors go into making something the “best” of its category, and we would be remiss if we tried to figure out which Ford vehicle in 2015 was the “best.” However, what we can do in determining such a thing is approach the topic from a specific angle. Namely, speaking from an investor’s point of view, what can we say was Ford Motor Company’s best vehicle in 2015? And here, in all honesty, the answer to this question happens to be quite simple: Ford’s best vehicle of 2015 is easily its F-Series pickups.

Again, we are looking at this through an investor’s point of view, and when it comes to investors, specific specs matter much less than profits. Now, of course, the exact details with regard to any automaker’s vehicles’ profitability are usually kept pretty tight-lipped when it comes to the public. However, it is safe to say that not a whole lot of other vehicles tend to generate quite the numbers—profits-wise—that Ford Motor Company’s F-Series pickups do.

Now, those of us with a close eye with regard to math could look at the F-Series’ 2015 profit numbers and come to the conclusion that this year was kind of a unremarkable year for Ford’s famous line of pickup trucks. However, this would be a bit unfounded. That is to say, the F-Series numbers show that United States sales are up 2.3%, which does look low at first glance, but one has to take into account that these sales are up 2.3% over what were insanely good numbers in 2014; all of this, despite a long period of shortages on Ford’s ever-popular F-150. 2014 saw Ford selling 753,851 F-Series pickups in the United States market, and the automaker was well on pace to exceed that number by the end of 2015. Taking all of this into account, that is an impressive leap to say the least.

And too, speaking of profits (and, again, remember that we are talking/thinking as investors here), Ford’s F-Series pickups are not simply the company’s bestseller, but also its most profitable. Here is an example: a Ford F-150 rolls off the lot at a base price of around $26,000. Too, the F-150 Super Duty pushes things a bit more with a price tag of approximately $32,000. But, again, this is base price; these vehicles are the bare bones of pickups, and there are not a lot of people out there who simply want the least, most basic package a vehicle can offer. This means that, on average, the price of a Ford F-Series pickup truck in November of 2015 reached about $42,000, which is an insanely profitable price for the automaker.

As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to Ford’s F-Series pickup trucks. Too, while you are at it, come down and sign up to test drive a 2016 Ford F-150 and see why it, along with its F-Series brothers and sisters, are easily Ford Motor Company’s best vehicle in 2015.

Ford Puts High-Energy Plasma to Work Bringing Old Engines Back to Life

With little question at this point in time, it’s clear that there’s a worldwide revolution currently underway, one that aims to make the most of new ideas about recycling, reuse, and sustainability. As technology continues to increase the capabilities of that revolution, you can also be sure that some pretty interesting innovations are emerging left and right to support the world’s growing ideals for making old things new again. Today’s auto industry certainly stands as no exception, and today we put our focus on a fascinating process currently being used by the Ford company to do just that.

Traditionally, a worn out engine block didn’t have much hope of being used for anything but scrap metal. Curious to take advantage of the obvious waste of energy and raw materials, Ford has recently been developing and putting to new use a modern high-tech method for bringing these worn engines back to life. Employing what is known in the auto industry as a plasma-based thermal spray process, Ford is showing in no uncertain terms that there’s a lot of surprising benefit yet to be had from a willingness to push the envelope.

Officially dubbed the ‘Plasma-Transferred Wired Arc’ (or PTWA) process, this high-energy technique essentially allows for very intensely charged electrodes to vaporize a solid feed of new metal and spray it like paint onto an old engine block, spreading the material evenly at high velocity, filling pits and scratches, and bringing the block back into a reliable like-new condition. Commonly, the technique is used to enhance the strength of some high-performance cylinder bores, and also in the refurbishing of diesel engines in heavy construction equipment.

Now, Ford has put the process to work on a wider level, revitalizing the spent surfaces of the blocks in its more common engines and enhancing the benefits of the PTWA process. Originally developed for use by Ford as an engine performance enhancement, the ability of this successfully-adapted version to revitalize and extend the life of an engine has proved invaluable as a technique geared more toward sustainability. As an added bonus to the efficiency of the process, a PTWA treatment is said to expend roughly one half of the energy required to produce an entirely new block.

Continuing to work to make the most of what modern technology has to offer in terms of efficient reuse, Ford’s efforts to adapt the PTWA process is only one of a series of similar projects, including the company’s current development of plant fiber materials for use in its manufacturing processes. This holiday season, the crew at Pilson Ford is looking forward to an excellent New Year full of plenty more fascinating innovations, and wishing you a reinvigorating start of your own!

SEMA Sees Ford F-150s Get Some Stellar Custom Upgrades

At Pilson Ford, we were pretty busy selling Fords this month to get away to Las Vegas to check out the slew of cool, custom accessorized, low and high riding Ford pickups. While we couldn’t make the 2015 SEMA show in person, you bet Ford was well represented, and that’s good enough for us.

The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association, or SEMA for short, gives both the automakers and the auto parts industry the chance to show off at a special showcase. The event went down at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 3rd to the 6th, with the trade show featuring some of the best new specialty automotive products the industry has to offer. Last year the SEMA show attracted 60,000 buyers from all over the country and the world. While we don’t have the stats on this year’s event yet, we have a feeling that number was surpassed.

Specialty parts, tools and components got their chance to shine fitted out on a few 2016 F-150 pickups. Specialty parts makers, such as MRT, CGS, Air Design USA, Roush, MRT, and Leer, were given the chance to make what is already one bad truck even badder — they virtually crowned these Fords kings of the aftermarket realm.

MRT’s contribution to a customized F-150 featured Exedy flywheel and clutch and a Tremac six speed manual transmission paired with a twin-turbocharged 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6. Roush had its lucky recipient blasted with graphics and sporting a 5.0 liter V8 capable of delivering 650 hp. Air Design USA’s took their Ford and tricked it out with a hood scoop and some awesome fender flares and vents. Galpin Auto Sports showed off a F-150 with reinforced rear-end housing, custom lighting and grille modifications and a three stage suspension kit. A nice roll bar mounted on the truck bed was a nice touch.

As much as we’ve just talked up these custom-made pickups, any standard Ford car or truck is just fine as it is. We’ve go plenty of those here. To get behind the wheel of your own, come visit us at Pilson Ford. We are located at 2000 Lake Land Boulevard in Mattoon, IL.

A look inside Ford’s high-tech Valencia factory

When you think of car factory machinery, your mind probably goes to chrome robotic arms, churning metal, and huge conveyor belts. You'd be pretty close to composing an accurate picture, but you'd be forgetting one very important thing: ostrich feathers. At Ford's largest European factory, in Spain's south-eastern coastal city of Valencia, ostrich feathers have an integral role to play in the manufacturing of Ford vehicles.

The Valencia factory has been called one of the "world's most advanced, flexible and productive" plants. Among all the hi-tech machinery, ostrich feathers do a very important job: they're used to clean dust from freshly stamped car body panels. As the panels glide down the production line to be painted, they're brushed with giant feather dusters, much like a garage car wash except the microfiber rollers are made of ostrich plumes (female feathers are the best, apparently).

"The whole system is designed to prevent static electricity from causing particles to stick to the vehicle," says Dirk Hoelzer, Ford of Europe's chief paint engineer. "Through their unique construction and durability, ostrich feathers are perfect for picking up and holding tiny particles."

Of course, the occasional dust particle does get through and that's where Ford's remarkable tech comes in. Valencia plant technicians worked with the local university to engineer a system capable of identifying imperfections in the paintwork that are invisible to the naked eye. After a vehicle is painted, it's scanned by multiple high-resolution cameras; the computer then matches the surface to ideal standards and locates any blemishes. The computer analyzes 3,150 images in 15 seconds, which means production never has to slow.

Ford also tests cars at random to detect rattles or vibrations from a loose screw or a badly fitted part using an ultra-sensitive high-tech microphone. Quality control manager Juan Soler demonstrated the microphone's capabilities by dropping a coin into the car and showing that the computer was able to pick up the rattle even though it was inaudible to the human ear. The computer also located the coin.

Valencia's extraordinary capabilities as a "mega plant" means that it will be able to turn out 400,000 vehicles in 2015 – a 40% increase from 2014 – and has the capacity to produce up to 450,000. When it's running at full capacity, the factory will be the second biggest Ford has behind its Chinese factory. Of course, it takes a lot to keep a plant of that size running efficiently. A hyper-advanced wi-fi network was installed and workers are currently testing out smartwatches to help them communicate more easily with one another on the assembly line.

Witness the incredible capabilities of Ford's technologies by visiting us at Pilson Ford today. We'll be happy to demonstrate the best of what Ford has to offer.

Ford Bronco set to return in 2016

First, we heard that the Bronco was on its way back into dealerships. Then we heard that the whole thing was a hoax, a by-product of a 2014 April Fool’s Day joke that got blown out of proportion. Then, in August of this year, we were told that a 2016 Bronco wasn’t impossible, just “unlikely”. Now reports are being circulated that the 2016 model of a new Ford Bronco is happening for real. Ford: stop playing with our hearts!

The latest news seems to be the real deal though, with reports indicating that Ford will announce the official release date of the 2016 Bronco at the 2016 Detroit Car Show in January of next year. Whether Ford will show up with an actual concept of the vehicle or will simply showcase concept photos remains to be seen. Supposing the 2016 Bronco comes out in the second half of next year, it will be probably be positioned to compete with the Nissan Xterra. No doubt the Bronco will be a serious off-roader though, and will also find competition with the Jeep Wrangler.

Enough speculation – here’s what we know for sure: the 2016 Bronco will retain the rugged look of its predecessors while getting a modern interior update, including a new touchscreen display and power-adjustable seats. The new incarnation of the Bronco will also have wide luggage space behind the back seats and ample leg space for the added satisfaction of passengers. Reports say that the new Bronco will be an evolution of the Everest SUV, but will have a shorter wheelbase and will come with a two-door option.

Depending on the kind of accessories available and its trim levels, the new Bronco will have a retail price of between $24,000 and $31,000. But, of course, Ford has yet to confirm either the price range or the release date so this information should be taken with a grain of salt for the time being.

For now we can only speculate about the vehicle’s specifications, but one of the 2016 Bronco variants has been reported to feature a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine with a strength of 420 horsepower. The 4.9-liter Powerstroke diesel V6 engine (330 hp and 645 pound-feet of torque) is also on the table, as well as the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 (662 hp and 631 pound-feet of torque). The vehicle’s transmission is also speculated to feature a choice of either a 6R140 six-speed automatic of a ZF 6-speed manual.

We don’t expect to see the new Bronco on the market until late 2016, which leaves us plenty of time to daydream about what awesome new features it may have. Regardless, we’re just happy to hear the classic SUV is making a comeback.

In the meantime, Pilson Ford has plenty of notable SUVs for you to choose from. Stop by anytime for a test drive.

Luxury Pickups Offer the Best of Both Worlds

Does the term ‘luxury pickup’ strike the same nerve as ‘paid volunteer’ or ‘working vacation’? When you think of luxury, you think of BMWs, Mercedes, and Lexus. But Ford?

When you think of Ford, you probably think of pickups, and for good reason. Ford has likely been a leader in pickup sales for longer than you’ve been alive.

Now Ford is advancing into a brave new marketplace—in fact, they’re inventing it. Welcome to the era of luxury pickups. It’s an oxymoron no more.

Pickup trucks are now the top-selling luxury vehicles in the U.S, and Ford’s F-series are at the top of the list.  Luxury pickups are an obvious choice for wealthy ranchers, construction bosses, and other high-paying rural professions. But what’s surprising is that a growing number of white-collar businessmen living in cities across the country are trading their BMWs, Audis, and Lexus sedans for luxury pickups.

Why? What’s changing?

Well, consumers are getting smart. Luxury sedans have little utilitarian value besides impressing people. Luxury pickups, on the other hand, tow far more weight than any high-end sedan, they have much better resale value, and they often cost considerably less.

If you could enjoy the comfort and luxury of a BMW or Mercedes with all the abilities of an all-terrain vehicle, why would there even be a question about which to buy? Mother nature is fickle and unpredictable, and those living in the Northeast and Midwest would certainly enjoy the clearance and control of a pickup during the winter months.  Also, though many people don’t realize it, they could use a pickup to save, or even make, money. Say goodby to delivery fees for furniture and appliances. Next time you’re moving, forget hiring movers.

Despite the frills, these trucks are still tough as nails.  Standing head and shoulders above the rest is the F-150 Platinum model, which has LED headlamps, blind-spot monitoring, active park assist that parallel parks for you, and a 360-degree camera system like those found in the 7-series BMW sedan.  This is an emerging trend. As recently a 2009, only 1% of Ford pickups cost more than $50,000. Today the number is 25%. Ford officials say they still don’t know what the ceiling is for vehicles of this type.

Come check out the full line of Ford pickups at Pilson Ford, and stay tuned for all the latest developments from America’s favorite car manufacturer.

Pilson Ford Receives Extremely Rare Petty's Garage Mustang GT

When Ford and Petty’s Garage team up, good things are bound to happen. And that’s exactly what we’ve got here. Ford and Alcoa to make the 2016 F-150 Lighter

Ford’s F-150 series is arguably their best selling model when it comes to pickups. The vehicle is virtually everywhere, popular for its clean look as well as its ability to be the tough pickup many have in mind when they think of buying such a vehicle. But still, new development with Alcoa, a company that advertises itself as the global leader in lightweight metals engineering and manufacturing, might just make the already popular and useful new Ford F-150 even more so in 2016.

That is to say, Alcoa has developed a new aluminum alloy that implements a new process the company has termed “Micromill.” This is interesting because such a process is said to be a whole 30% stronger than alloys used by automakers today and up to 30% lighter as well than automotive-grade high-strength steel. The new Micromill also boasts up to 40% greater “formability,” which means automakers will have an easier time forming intricate molds, which, up until now, have been made out of steel.

Getting a jump on this new technology is a huge move by Ford, one which makes an extreme amount of sense with regard to a business perspective. With the world ever tightening its fuel economy and pollution regulations, all major automakers are investing in new technologies in this respect. Ford, unlike a lot of its rivals, have put a specific interest on making its vehicles lighter in weight, which, of course, means a better fuel economy given that all other things are equal.

This information was key in Ford’s decision to build its 2015 F-150 pickup with aluminum body panels. Demand for the new F-150 has been very high, which suggests that customers are pleased with Ford’s decision. Ford let us know that it plans on using the new Micromill alloy as a staple on certain components in the 2016 version of the F-150 pickup, which goes into production at the end of the year. This means that Ford’s new truck will become even lighter.

Though the alloy is not set to fully replace steel, because of its formability, a number of intricate vehicle parts that were previously made of steel simply because they were easier to form, the sheet metal can now be replaced with this new aluminum alloy product.

Of course, over a given period of time, we can expect Ford to concentrate more and more of their efforts on bringing Alcoa’s new aluminum alloy product to more of their vehicles. This is beneficial across the board: a lighter weight, and thus better fuel economy, for the consumer and a better way to piece together vehicles for the makers.

Keep checking back in here with us here at Pilson Ford for more information with regard to Ford’s new 2016 F-150 pickup.

Assembly Line

Perpetual Optimization: Ford’s Assembly Line

Since 2003, Ford has reduced its assembly line worker injury rate by 70 percent by using ergonomics research, 3D printed simulations, virtual manufacturing, and other data-driven process changes. This is big news for their 50,000 employees, for whom the repetitive motions of the assembly line can have serious consequences.

When Henry Ford invented the assembly line, it revolutionized production after the industrial revolution sparked a fear of machines replacing man. But by streamlining those still-human elements of the production process, Ford inadvertently turned workers into something quite like machines. Today, we’ve come to see that as more of a con than a pro - and though assembly lines are still a crucial part of vehicle production all across the automotive industry, innovation is still at the heart of the company, especially in this area.

Unlike auto companies that emphasize the vehicle’s look and performance, Ford has a team of manufacturing and ergonomic experts who consider design feasibility and the safety of the employees on the production line. Assembly line work is physically demanding, requiring extremely repetitive movements that can lead to injury, and a malfunctioning machine can easily snatch a hand or entire arm. To reduce the risk of injury, as well as employee fatigue and strain, Ford ergonomists virtually simulate the entire build process using both human and virtual test subjects to reduce the risks and physical labor required.

The virtual assessments often begin two to three years before a new vehicle launch. So far, Ford has virtual manufacturing techniques to improve over 100 vehicle launches, including the 2015 Mustang, F-150, and 2016 Explorer.

Three core technologies are used during the virtual assemble task assessments: 3D printing, full-body motion capture, and immersive virtual reality. To determine hand clearance for employees with various hand sizes, especially for tasks that require precise and detailed work, Ford’s ergonomists 3D print full-scale models of certain assembly line machines to test how tight the space will be. The results from these tests have proven to be more accurate than virtual simulations.

With the full-body motion capture, more than 53 motion-capture markers are placed on an employee’s body to see how their arms, back, legs and torso interact while they work. More than 50,000 data points are collected to reveal muscle strain and imbalance. Lastly, immersive virtual reality uses a 23-camera motion-capture system and head-mounted display to envision an employee in a future workstation. The results from these tests consider the worker’s safety and productivity, as well as the vehicle design’s overall feasibility.

Until factories become completely mechanized, assembly line work will remain an essential part of the global manufacturing industry, and protecting employees must be the top priority. While ‘Fordism’ today isn’t always seen as a positive, that magic human touch - and its protection - are still at the heart of the company.

Ford Is Making a European Comeback

Historically, the American motor company has had a hard go of it in Europe – Ford’s biggest division outside the United States. In 2012, Ford Europe took $1.75 billion in losses and $1.6 billion in 2013. Sales continued to dwindle through 2014 and into 2015. But just a week ago, Ford announced that its sales in Europe rose 16% in June.

This is thanks to former CEO Alan Mulally, who charted a course for improvement back in 2012. His plan wasn't to make a profit in Europe, just to break even – a much hoped-for success after Ford's consecutive annual losses.

"Carmakers across the globe have been fighting for sales in a region where new vehicle registrations hit a near-two decade low of $11.9 million in 2013 after six consecutive years of decline,” Andy Sharman, Motor Industry Correspondent, wrote in his article for Financial Times. "Registrations are not expected to return to their pre-recession peak of $15.5 million until after 2020." Europe has been a difficult market for nearly all automakers for years. Longstanding recessions in key European markets have kept auto sales well below their trends before the economic downturn.

Which is why the new reports are so important. This month, the new Ford Mondeo sedan sales are up 55%. The old Mondeo was a slow-selling Europe-only model. The new model, launched a few months ago, mimics the Ford Fusion, a steady seller in the United States. Ford plans to capitalize on the Mondeo's success by releasing a luxury version later this summer called the Mondeo Vignale.

Commercial vehicles are also pulling Ford up. Commercial-vehicle sales rose 33% in the first half of 2015, giving Ford its highest commercial sales in two decades. Overall, Ford's market share in Europe was 8.1% in the first half of 2015 – 0.2 points higher from a year ago.

Mulally's 2012 plan was aggressive and included major cutbacks – two U.K. factories and a big plant in Belgium were closed – along with the release of new vehicles to the European market, like the Mustang. Later this summer, the Mustang will hit European shores for the first time, and almost 7,000 pre-orders are already in. Ford's current CEO, Mark Fields, says that the losses will finally end in 2016 and Ford will at last make a profit in the region.

Exciting things are happening at home and abroad. The long-awaited 2015 Shelby GT350 is scheduled for release later this year, with 500 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft of torque. Be sure to check in regularly with your friends at Pilson Ford to see when to come test-drive one!

Ford releases new info on 2016 Focus RS’ incredible specs

Hold on tight because Ford just blew the competition away, yet again and at your Mattoon Ford dealer, we can't wait to see what they have in store. The automaker has announced that the new Focus RS will make an astounding 345 horsepower from its 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. It competitors – the Volkswagen Golf R and the Subaru WRX STI – pack a measly 292-hp and 305-hp respectively. Never one to disappoint their fans, the company had previously claimed the RS would reach at least 315-hp when it first detailed the car in February. It’s safe to say they’ve more than made good on that promise.

It’s also confirmed that the RS’s torque figure comes in at 325 lb-ft between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. An over boost function allows for a maximum of 347 lb-ft for up to 15 seconds when the driver’s right foot is against the firewall. (The Golf R peaks at 280 lb-ft and the STI at 290.) The EcoBoost engine’s rev limiter cuts in at 6,800 rpm. Up to 70 percent of the torque can be delivered to the rear axle, and up to 100 percent of that amount can be routed to the outside rear wheel. Every Focus RS will shunt its output through a six-speed manual transmission and onto a new all-wheel-drive system that features clutch packs on each rear half-shaft to guarantee dynamic torque vectoring.

But wait – that’s not all. The car will also feature several chassis modes, including a “Drift Mode” that allows you to hang the tail out, and brake-based torque vectoring on the front wheels (reminiscent of the Focus ST). And the hits keep coming: besides shutting down its AWD hot-compact competition, the RS’s output figures top those of the Mustang EcoBoost, which uses a longitudinal application of the same 2.3-liter to produce 310-hp and 320 lb-ft. The RS features a bigger turbo compressor, a bigger intercooler, a freer-flowing intake, and a bigger diameter performance exhaust system with an active valve in the tailpipe to boot. The cylinders have stronger cast-iron liners and the head uses a different aluminum alloy capable of withstanding higher temps. Oh, and there’s also a mega-size radiator.

These exciting announcements come just before the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where Ken Block, a Ford rally driver, and RS development consultant, will run the all-wheel-drive super-hatch up the hill. That means we’ll finally get to see (and hear) the RS in action before its 2016 release date.

According to reports from Car & Driver, the RS tops out at 186mph. At Pilson Ford, we can’t wait to verify that with a little test drive of our own. While we count down the days until 2016, stop in to test out one of the 2015 Ford Focus models available on our lot. Military and student discounts are available, so don’t let money stop you from scooping up one of the best vehicles on the market.

Ford to Announce a Return to Le Mans in 2016 with All-New Ford GT Racecar

In 1966, three Ford GT racecars placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race in Le Mans, France. Ford went on to repeat this victory in 1967, 1968, and 1969, but  the initial win in 1966 was the start of it all. Ford, of course, knows this, and the company just announced that in 2016 — what will be the 50th anniversary of the Ford GT’s impressive win — Ford will return to Le Mans (easily one of the most prestigious racing events in the world) with an all-new GT race car, based on the Ford GT supercar that was unveiled in January, in order to celebrate the anniversary. “When the GT40 competed at Le Mans in the 1960s, Henry Ford II sought to prove Ford could beat endurance racing’s most legendary manufacturers,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman of Ford Motor Company. “We are still extremely proud of having won this iconic race four times in a row, and that same spirit that drove the innovation behind the first Ford GT still drives us today.”

The new Ford GT racecar will run the full 2016 schedules of the FIA World Endurance Championship and TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, making its competition debut in January 2016 in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Florida. This new GT easily serves as the pinnacle product of the new Ford Performance group, a division dedicated to providing innovation through performance.

And innovation is the name of the game with regard to the new Ford GT racecar, which features a number of technologies Ford believes will not only make it competitive in the LM GTE Pro, but also very much position the vehicle to provide benefits to each of the machines the Ford lineup. These include a state-of-the-art aerodynamics system that delivers an outstanding level of downforce for improved stability with minimal drag, advanced lightweight composites featuring carbon fiber for an exceptionally rigid but light chassis, and the power and efficiency of EcoBoost technology.

“As we developed the Ford GT, from the outset, we wanted to ensure that we had a car that has what it takes to return Ford to the world of GT racing,” said Raj Nair, Ford Motor Company group vice president of Global Product Development and chief technical officer. “We believe the Ford GT’s advances in aerodynamics, light-weighting and EcoBoost power will make for a compelling race car that can once again compete on a global stage.”

Keep checking back in here at Pilson Ford, your Pilson Ford dealer in Mattoon, for more information in regard to the all-new Ford GT racecar returning to the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 or take a look at our new Ford models.

Inside Ford’s Batcave-like Secret Lair Where They Developed the GT Super Car

The room was originally used to store foam. Yes, just simply foam. It’s a fairly unassuming room in the basement of Ford Motor Company’s Product Development Center. This is where the Ford GT super car was born from sketches and matured from clay models to prototypes. And now, to astounding praise from Ford fans, the car is being tested on the track in preparation for sale in the second half of 2016.

And recently, Ford was kind enough to allow reporters to enter the secrete space where the company had pulled together a select few executives, designers, and engineers to create and build perhaps the automaker’s most expensive car to date.

“We needed a small barricaded space, away from traffic,” said Moray Callum, who is Ford’s head of design. Callum went on to note that only a handful of people had access to the fairly top secret GT design studio initially. He mentioned that the project grew to a core team of only about 15 or so, with only about 20 people altogether having access to the space.

The task at hand was not a simple one — there was no beating around the bush, so to speak: develop the most sophisticated car in Ford’s history. Too, the vehicle had to go from idea to show car in around 14 months in order to be able to debut in January at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “Very impressive timing,” said Dave Sullivan, analyst with AutoPacific. "With a small team and upper management support, it shows what you can do. We have not seen anything like this from Detroit, and it was all done in Michigan.”

Sullivan goes on to mention everyone’s ability to keep the thing under wraps (which, in this day and age, is no small task): “And they did an excellent job of keeping it secret. It is impressive that a company can develop a global car in a room that small in a company that big. The auto industry usually can’t keep secrets like that.”

And one can easily tell that a definite amount of hard work went into this. The walls of the basement room are covered in story boards and concept drawings and sketches of the evolution of the design, different angles of the car, and the lightweight parts under development. The team also created scale models to get the proportions and then full-size foam models.

The final result truly is no run-of-the-mill vehicle. The Ford GT has 10 million lines of computer code running through its veins. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine with unique turbos, cams, pistons, and rods to generate more than 600 horsepower also has a million lines of code. Needless to say, the Ford GT is a small miracle.

Keep checking back in here with us at Pilson Ford for more information on the astounding Ford GT as it develops, in the meantime, check out our new Ford models.

What’s New with the 2017 Lincoln MKZ?

What’s different about the 2017 Lincoln MKZ sedan? We don’t know, because Lincoln doesn’t want us to know. The new MKZ has been spotted and photographed for sure, but the front and rear ends of the sedan are literally under wraps. While this does mean that changes have taken place, it doesn’t appear as if anything too drastic has occurred with the overall design, but it certainly doesn’t give us speculators here at Pilson Auto Center much to go on. All we can really say for sure is that it doesn’t appear that anything has changed in between the front and rear camouflage coverings. Not a lot to go on, but it’s all we have.

Something is going on underneath those covers that will likely alter the look of the 2017 model’s headlights and front fascia. Good money says that these stylistic changes will bring the MKZ a little closer to the appearance of the new Continental. The 2017 Continental was debuted recently at the New York Auto Show and the changes we see there are likely to be seen across several vehicles in the Lincoln line going forward. The platform of the front drive CD4 is staying the same, but it appears to even the most casual observer that the exhaust pipes have been reshaped, and it also looks like a new LED configuration has been added to the headlamps.

What we definitely can’t see is any changes under the hood, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been. Right now the MKZ sedan offers a turbo 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder Ecoboost as well as a 3.7 liter V-6. The addition of a 2.3 liter EcoBoost would improve fuel economy even more, so there is a possibility that we’ll see that option as well. Fuel efficient yet still capable of delivering 310 horsepower? Nice. We can probably expect to see the real deal when it debuts at the Detroit Auto Show in January of 2016 with the first sedans being available soon after with sales price of about $36,000.

Unfortunately, we can’t reveal any more about the new 2017 Lincoln, because we just don’t know ourselves, but we do have great Lincoln models on hand for you to peruse at Pilson Ford. Come see for yourself. We are located at 2000 Lake Land Boulevard in Mattoon, IL.

Ford F-150 Switch to Aluminum Pays Off

The 2014 Ford F-150 just received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration, which is a big accomplishment considering the brand’s recent switch to an aluminum frame on the full-size truck. The four-star rating even surpasses the previous rating for the steel model, which marks an important moment in the future of development processes for brands across the board.

Ford spent upwards of a million dollars to rebuild the factory tools that fabricate Ford F-150 parts. This revision to fabrication methods coupled with a high NHTSA rating means that we should see more heavy-duty trucks from Ford made with aluminum bodies on the consumer market soon.

Both the 2015 Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra have received five-star ratings, while the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon come in at four stars overall. Still up for grabs by Ford is a five-star rating for crew cab model of the F-150. Although it has passed internal testing, a final say for the NHTSA is what matters.

For the testing process the NHTSA used three crew cabs and will be testing three super cabs as well. If both models get high ratings, it will mark the first time since 2011 that the F-150 meets the mark of such rigorous testing standards. Throughout the development process, Ford paid the most attention to the area of the vehicle called the front crush horn, or the area that takes most of the force in a head-on crash. They also made changes to the side-impact protection.

Of course, Ford is highly invested in the success of aluminum frames going forward after five years of investment in this alternative material. Len Shaner, Ford F-Series safety supervisor, said in a interview that the development team had to experiment with various sizes and combinations of materials before reaching the five-star rated version announced this week.

In the process of developing a more efficient vehicle, Ford took on the help of a global developing and safety team, filing 31 patents and adding 31 new safety features like inflating seatbelts in the back seat.

Losing hundreds of pounds along the way, the F-150 gained a better fuel economy and towing capacity thanks to the new aluminum build, which boasts a patented 12-corner design to withstand impact more efficiently. This required utmost attention to the malleability of aluminum coupled with strategic design features to augment impact.

We should expect ratings from the NHTSA for the super cab edition of the F-150 over the summer. In the meantime, come check out the F-150 in person at Pilson Ford — or feel free to give us a call with any questions at (217) 234-2397.

Ford and Chevrolet Collaborating on New, Track-Only Hypercar

When it comes to high-performance supercars, we’ll be the first to admit that since the golden age of Mustangs and muscle, Ford usually isn’t the first name that comes to mind, especially in comparison to the well-known, high-end-specializing European manufacturers who have built their reputations around the racetrack rather than the suburban driveway. The world of supercars, and that of the new, even higher-performance vehicles that are now being referred to as hypercars, stands as one that’s usually dominated by flashy brands from Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. However, a new Ford project, part of the company’s announced goal to produce twelve new performance vehicles by 2020, stands to level the playing field across the Atlantic a bit!

Soon, a team of developers representing the united efforts of Ford and Chevrolet are planning to bring a little bit of American flavor to the racetrack alongside recent envelope-pushing designs like Aston Martin’s Vulcan and McLaren’s P1 GTR, a pair of track-only supercars with enough performance edge to inspire the use of a new, unofficial ‘hypercar’ categorization within the already-intimidating supercar class. After collaborating on engine and component projects in the past, this new top-tier entry will mark the first time Ford and Chevrolet have joined forces to develop a finished vehicle.

Of course, Ford itself is no stranger to modern performance vehicle design, with the newest generation of Ford’s longtime high-end flagship, the GT, generating a lot of buzz recently after being revealed and announced for a big release in 2016. As another part of the company’s upcoming performance development goals, the new supercar collaboration with Chevrolet will stand as less of a new foray into unfamiliar territory and more of a long-awaited outlet for the most progressive elements of Ford’s design endeavors. The well-received new GT serves as a jumping off point for the new hypercar project, along with Chevrolet's most recent Corvette Z06. Naturally, the new project has also already inspired a lot of speculation in light of Ford’s stated performance production goals, and rumor already has it that a new Corvette ZR1 may not be far behind. It’s certainly safe to assume that the excitement never stops at Ford design headquarters, and that there’s plenty left to show in the near future!

With few goals in mind other than pushing the envelope of pure, stylish performance, the joint Ford and Chevrolet team plans to get tests on their new hypercar rolling later this year. Since the collaboration allows both companies to go further and move more quickly in realizing their similar goals, development promises to move faster than usual. According to GM, “[w]hen there’s a goal that both have in mind, it becomes more cost-effective to pair up.” We couldn’t agree more, and here’s to a fruitful partnership! We hope you’ll stay in touch for more details to come following Ford’s presentations at this year’s New York Auto Show, and that you’ll count on Pilson Ford to be on the pulse of new developments as we continue to bring you exciting news about these and other upcoming Ford creations.

New Ford F-150 Production Slated to Commence in Kansas City

In regard to the U.S. automotive world, it can be said with some confidence that there is nothing that truly matches the Ford F-Series pickups, the award winning, best-selling line that has defined American trucks for generations. And for almost forty years now, the F-150 has carried the torch for the F-Series, dominating the market and establishing a running habit of setting new standards in both design and performance. Marking its incredible thirty-third year as the most popular pickup in America, the all-new 2015 F-150 stands poised to keep this legacy of excellence in motion. Let’s get down to the details!

As can be reasonably expected of Ford, the approach to the release of the 2015 F-150 has been a bit of a game-changing process itself. For almost two years, the Ford Motor Company has been training a legion of highly specialized workers and updating manufacturing sites in Michigan and Missouri to implement an entirely new process for the 2015 model’s production. Set to get running full-steam in Kansas City by the end of the quarter, the new system incorporates innovative methods and materials including an all-new, weight-reducing aluminum body and a cutting-edge joining technology which allows for the introduction of a new riveting system to further enhance the strength of new materials and replace much of the older models’ standard welding. This year, the F-150 stands to proudly demonstrate both sides of its historic personality in full, both as a definitive American classic, and as a model for progress in all aspects of automotive production.

On its way through the gauntlet, the new F-150 model totalled more than ten million cumulative miles of testing, and gave an impressive show of its new energy-saving, lighter-and-yet-more-powerful specs at one of the truck industry’s favorite proving grounds, the Southern California Off-Road Enterprises Baja 1000 race, held at the end of last year. It’s exactly this kind of focus and attention to detail that has allowed Ford to produce a next-generation F-150 that is not only 700 pounds lighter than its predecessors and capable of reducing energy costs by as much as twenty percent in comparison to this year’s in-class competitors, but powerful enough to add up to 1,100 pounds of towing and 530 pounds of haul to its previous benchmarks. Naturally, that dedication to innovation is also what makes Pilson Ford proud to be a member of the Ford family!

Certainly, the road leading up to this year’s big reveal has been a careful balancing act for Ford, who have been pouring their collective heart and soul into the project for some time, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how the extra patience and planning have paid off. Pilson Ford is excited to share the news of the 2015 F-150’s official emergence, and of an exciting new era in the evolution of such an iconic design. Don’t hesitate to stop by or get in touch with us to get more info and to make plans to see for yourself just why America has chosen Ford to be number one in pickups for almost four decades!

Ford Dominates the Competition Across the Board at Daytona Weekend

It’s a time for celebration here at Pilson Ford, as we echo the victories captured by the all-star Ford drivers at this year’s fantastic Daytona weekend!

It was truly a clean sweep in Florida this year, as Ford drivers took top honors during the race weekend’s Camping World Truck Series, the Xfinity Series, and, not to mention, of course, the 57th annual Daytona 500. Today, Pilson Ford is proud to give our hearty congratulations to Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, and Ryan Reed for their dedication to excellence behind the wheel of Ford vehicles. With such talented drivers commanding Ford’s stable of competition-leading technology, it’s no wonder why we’re getting used to basking in the results of a perfect partnership!

To start things off, Friday night’s Camping World Truck Series race saw 19 year-old up-and-comer Tyler Reddick set a high, motivating standard for his Ford-driving counterparts, as he clinched his first Daytona victory in only his 18th race in the series. An intense race that saw a number of dramatic incidents, including two unusually large crashes, lots of debris, and even a surprising fire on the pit road, the race only marked the beginning of what was shortly to become an unusually exciting weekend. And we think that’s saying a lot at Daytona!

It seems that epic danger and surprise victories weren’t quite done with the Ford drivers at Daytona on Saturday, when Brad Keselowski Racing team member Ryan Reed overcame not only one, but two harrowing multi-car pileups that ultimately knocked thirty-one of the race’s total forty drivers out of the winning lap. In a turn for the tragic, star Toyota driver Kyle Busch sustained a leg injury during one such event, which ultimately kept him out of Sunday’s Daytona 500. As spectators ourselves, we love an exciting race, but we can agree that it’s never worth an unnecessary risk of injury or death, and we wish Kyle a speedy recovery. What’s a good Ford driver without some strong competition, anyway?

Naturally, the Daytona weekend wouldn’t be much without its flagship race, and Ford was there to make sure that this year’s 57th annual Daytona 500 had plenty of excitement left to deliver after a very eventful lead-up. Going up against highly successful drivers almost twice his age and with demonstrably more experience, fan favorites like Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (who took second and third, respectively), 24 year-old Team Penske phenom Joey Logano took top honors behind the wheel of his Ford. At age 19, Logano made an early name for himself as the youngest winner in the history NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series. We’re proud to call him a Ford driver!

Sunday’s race marks Logano’s ninth Sprint Cup Series win on his 220th start. The powerful, heartfelt victory, for which Logano was already bellowing with excitement as he crossed the finish line, came following a pile-up that threatened to spread the damage of Friday and Saturday into Sunday’s match. But Logano was determined to the very end, and this year, Pilson Ford is enthusiastic to echo his pride in showing what Ford can do to help drivers at all levels to have a better, safer, and more successful driving experience. You don’t have to cross the finish line in first to know that Ford is behind its drivers all the way, so come check out all the great Ford models we have in stock, and take a test drive today!

Lincoln Lets You Create A Musical Selfie to Match Your Unique Style

Here's a unique idea that you may not have thought of before. (We certainly haven’t here at Pilson Auto Center, but then again, we’re pretty busy selling great Lincoln luxury automobiles.) If there was a piece of technology that could compose a song based on the features of your face, what would it sound like? That’s an interesting question that Lincoln is encouraging people to discover the answer to.

The Lincoln Motor Company has launched a marketing campaign that allows users to submit photos of themselves through their website. Once the photo has been uploaded, a software application scans facial features and creates a song based on its reading. The user’s jawline establishes the bass line, the eyes trigger keyboards, lips determine guitar tones, the nose forms the percussion, the eyebrows set the ambience and the music is created to match the uniqueness of the subject’s face. It’s a pretty innovative idea, and that is exactly what Lincoln is known for.

The software technology used in the creation of these musical selfies was developed by the Toronto digital production company Jam3. The software scans the facial features then uses an algorithm to produce a song based on those features. Changing facial expressions will also change the music. Smiling, frowning, or raising eyebrows will deliver a different song, so it could be said that the song also fits your mood, as well as your features. There are over four million possible variations for the audio track which creates many different possibilities for unique musical profiles.

The purpose of this Music Selfie Experiment is to help Lincoln connect with a younger demographic through the use of music. Lincoln is committed to the arts just as much as it is committed to innovation and luxury, and this experiment is just one more facet of the overall creative brand. The marketing campaign is driven by social media and capitalizes on America’s selfie fixation, adding to it an unexpected artistic twist. Of course, when you’re behind the wheel of a Lincoln you can listen to any music you like, though you probably shouldn’t take any selfies while driving. Stoplights are okay though.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the site to see what beautiful music your face creates, and don’t forget to visit us here at Pilson Ford Lincoln to check out our beautiful luxury Lincoln models. We are located at 2000 Lake Land Boulevard in Matoon, IL.

Ford Releases Exciting Details on the Forthcoming Focus RS Hatchback

It’s finally happening. Ford has announced that the new 2017 Ford Focus RS will be imported and sold in the US! The company revealed the ultra-high-performance Focus hatchback at a special event in Cologne, Germany (where the car was developed) to a frenzied audience. Pilson Ford is here to let you know what you can expect from the forthcoming all-wheel-drive hatchback:

1. It’s a powerhouse.

One of the first things Ford’s chief of global performance vehicle development, Jamal Hameedi, told Car & Driver, was that the Focus RS “is an incredible platform to go racing with.” His endorsement of the RS’ power and handling doesn’t appear to be an exaggeration. The engine is an update to the EcoBoost Mustang, now featuring a 2.3-liter cylinder, a new low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, a revised cylinder head, and a totally unique cooling setup specifically tailored to the Focus’ transverse engine layout. Car & Driver reports that they’ve been told to expect “well in excess” of 315 horsepower. (For comparison, the EcoBoost Mustang maxes out at 310hp.) Ford is also promising a “free-revving top end” with a maximum rev limit of 6800 rpm.

2. Its all-wheel-drive system is completely new.

The Focus RS utilizes an all-wheel-drive system that is said to have been designed by Ford completely in-house. Assuming the vehicle is traveling in a straight line with zero slip at any of its tires, the all-wheel-drive setup sends 100% of the available power to the front axle. When there’s steering input or slip is detected, up to 70% of the available torque can be routed to the rear axle. From there, it can be split evenly between each rear wheel, or the system can instruct the rear-axle torque-vectoring mechanism’s clutches to pass 100% of the rear-axle torque to a single rear wheel. Bonus — The all-wheel-drive system is likely capable of delivering a zero-to-60-mph time of well under five seconds.

3. It’s all manual, all the time.

No automatic version is planned (dual clutch or otherwise). The RS will come standard – and only – with a six speed manual gearbox. Jamal Hameedi told reporters at the Cologne, Germany event: “You’re welcome.”

4. The tires are out of this world.

Car & Driver has already declared their excitement at testing the RS’ grip. Both ends of the car ride on 19-inch 235/35 Michelin Pilot Super Sports which were specifically designed for the RS. (You’ll have your choice between Pilot Super Sport rubber and track-focused Pilot Sport Cups.)

5. It’s full of surprises.

The new RS will be the same universally (except for some slight changes to safety and homologation equipment that vary by country), but we can expect some interesting changes to the standard Focus formula. For example, the RS features a drive-mode button which we hope will be a take on the Tesla P85D “Insane Mode”.

More details about the RS will be revealed at the Geneva Auto Show in March, but while you wait, visit Pilson Ford for a look at any of our other great Focus models.

Ford Announces Wage Increase for 500 Employees

2015 is shaping up to be an excellent year for Ford Motors and its employees. Increased demand for the new version of Ford’s F-series pickup truck has prompted a transition to higher wages for up to 500 of the company’s entry-level union workers. The New York Times reported last week that Ford will add 1,550 new jobs at 4 plants in the US to increase production of the hugely popular pickup. The automaker sold 54,000 full size F-series trucks in January of this year, a 12% increase from the same month in 2014. The 1,550 new jobs will be split between Ford’s Kansas City assembly plant and three component plants in the greater Detroit area. It’s not clear just yet how many more vehicles will be built because of the additional workers, but it’s safe to say that demand will definitely be met.

Adding the new jobs means that Ford will exceed its nationwide cap on entry-level workers (employees who earn about $19 per hour). Per the company’s agreement with the United Automobile Workers (UAW) union, 300-500 Ford entry level employees will transition to the $28 per hour wage earned by longtime factory workers. Bill Dirksen, Ford’s Vice President for labor affairs explained the transition to The New York Times: “Based on a formula in the union contract, Ford must move entry-level employees up to full-wage status once their numbers exceed about 28% of overall blue-collar employment.” This is the first time any entry-level workers at the three domestic carmakers have moved up to a higher wage scale since the companies agreed to a two-tier system in their 2007 contract with the UAW union. “It is another example of promises made and promises kept,” Dirksen said. Because of their government bailouts and bankruptcies, neither General Motors nor Fiat Chrysler’s American division have caps that restrict their entry-level numbers.

Currently 50,000 of Ford’s employees are represented by the UAW with roughly 14,000 paid entry-level wages. The 500 workers whose pay will be affected by the promotion will be chosen based on seniority, and changes to their wages will take effect during the first quarter of this year.

But UAW’s new president, Dennis Williams, already has his eyes set on goals to improve pay for those workers who will remain on the entry-level pay scale. Bargaining on this summer’s new labor contracts will include a push for those pay raises, plus a push for an increase in rates for full-wage workers. For now, the union seems satisfied with Ford’s efforts: “We’re excited that Ford continues to make good on its commitments,” James Settles, Jr., a UAW Vice President, told The New York Times.

These changes all come at the heels of the new F-series pickup’s tremendous success, so why not find out what all the fuss is about? Stop by Pilson Ford for a test drive today!

Video caught of the New 2017 Ford GT Supercar Engine Rev

If there is ever a good time to use the shorthand “OMG” to explain something, the use of it is 100% acceptable while watching the latest YouTube video from SUBARUWRXFAN showing the all-new 2017 Ford GT starting and revving its motor up at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show that has already surpassed 530,000 views!

Shown for the first time at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the all-new 2017 Ford GT supercar was accessible for many to take close up pictures of or selfies with, however only a few lucky individuals were able to hear and see the vehicle driving.

The quick video, which was filmed inside the Cobo Hall at the Ford Performance stage, shows the Ford GT starting up and driving slowing off stage left. The camera man starts the video as the driver’s door is closed and is lucky enough to follow the GT all the way out the exit. As the drive out video fades, another startup, drive, and rev scene takes over where the GT leaves through another exit located on the floor of the auto show.

While the revs are a little lackluster, the turbo whines are extremely noticeable. Derived from Ford’s Daytona Prototype LMP2 race car, the 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost twin turbocharged engine, which features direct injection, is claiming to achieve more than 600 horsepower and is showcased behind the front seats under a glass cover. The sizes of the turbochargers themselves have not been released.

According to Ford VP of design Moray Callum, the overall styling of the 2017 Ford GT is 95% completed. When asked what that means, Callum explained that the Ford still needs to redesign the door mirrors and tweak various lighting issues. He also did not confirm anything about the total amount of horsepower the 2017 Ford GT supercar will produce or when exactly it will be sold to the public.

Pilson Ford loves the new 2017 Ford GT supercar and looks forward to when it arrives. In the meantime, we have plenty of powerful vehicles in stock that feature similar twin turbocharged EcoBoost engines. From the 2.7-liter found in the new 2015 Ford Mustang or the 3.5-liter in the all-new F150, we would love to show you why the EcoBoost is the way to go. Stop by today.

Ford Uses Aluminum to Increase Fuel Economy

Aluminum is a material many automakers are utilizing in their cars and SUVs to save weight and increase fuel efficiency of their fleets. While the material is being used in cars from Audi, Jaguar, and even the Tesla Model S, the use by Ford in the 2014 F-150 is striking for a number of reasons.

Questions on the material’s durability, cost, and reparability in a pickup truck application were raised. Aluminum is softer than traditional steel and trucks are more harshly used than traditional vehicles.

While the launch of the new F-150 has gone well, Ford Executive Vice President and President of the Americas for Ford Motor Company, Joe Hinrichs, said that Ford has no plans to produce aluminum-clad cars just days after the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Hinrichs said he did not expect to see the number of aluminum cars increase dramatically over the next several years, noting that there were other cheaper ways to increase fuel efficiency in cars that would not work well in trucks.

Those cheaper options include electric, hybrid and diesel powertrains, three-cylinder engines, turbocharging technology, and improved aerodynamics. Even though Ford is offering a turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 engine in the F-150, its available engine offerings for their pickup truck cannot get much smaller.

Even though Ford said no cars will be fully produced in aluminum, certain parts of cars are, like the 2015 Mustang’s hood. Ford is also experimenting with other lightweight materials like carbon fiber to help increase fuel efficiency.

One of the automakers newest aluminum steeds is the 2016 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor—a massive and menacing from-the-factory off-road dominator. The use of aluminum, along with offering a smaller, though more powerful, EcoBoost 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, allows Ford to claim that the new Raptor is 500 pounds lighter than its predecessor.

The next use of aluminum for the company will likely be in its line of Super Duty, F-Series trucks along with the next Lincoln Navigator and possibly Ford Expedition SUVs—product offerings that sell well, but could use a hand with their fuel economy ratings.

Everyone here at Pilson Ford is excited about the new F-150 and Raptor. For the latest information on both, or any of our other great new Ford models, give us a call today!

Ford Launches Marketing Campaign For All-New 2015 F-150

The F-150 has always been an important vehicle for Ford, but with the latest iteration hitting dealership lots, the aluminum construction is really making waves.

To help sell the next generation of the truck that has been the best-selling vehicle in America for the last 32 consecutive years, Ford is implementing a diverse marketing campaign highlighting the truck's capability, durability, and technology. It will air on TV, tablets, and smartphones, as well as an accompanying series of webisodes hosted by ESPN “Sport Science” creator John Brenkus.

One of the biggest messages the automaker will be pushing during the campaign js the first mass-produced truck to have an all-aluminum body construction, making it 700 pounds lighter than its predecessor.

And if you're looking for a workhorse of a vehicle, not to worry, you'll be happy to hear that this reduced weight hasn't effected the towing capability. The 2015 F-150 can tow up to 12,000 pounds, and haul a payload of up to 3,300 pounds.

Some of the newer technology in the vehicle includes a 360-degree camera, LED headlights and spotlights, and a remote tailgate. There's also a wide range of new, fuel-efficient engine choices, and the trucks equipped with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine paired with two-wheel drive, will get you 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg on the highway.

The capacity to build the new F-150 is more than 700,000 a year, and they began rolling off the assembly line in Dearborn and Kansas City this past November.

So if you're ready to try out the new F-150, or learn more about any of our other Ford offerings, please feel free to contact us at Pilson Ford today.

The First Test Drive of the 2015 Ford F-150

Unless this is your first time to our blog or you’re new to the automotive world, you have already heard all about the new 2015 Ford F-150 and how it's the first full-size pickup truck to utilize an all-aluminum body. But after Gary Gastelu of Foxnews.com was able to get behind the wheel, he claims that the all-aluminum body isn't the most exciting thing about it. While Ford and their respective PR team has been telling the industry and consumers alike all about utilizing aluminum to improve fuel economy and capability, the only thing consumers really need to know is that the new 2015 Ford F-150 is still a solid pickup truck.

Upon initial inspection, Gastelu noted that the fully re-engineered F-150 reveals nothing about the usage of aluminum, and with the current generation F-150 fitted with an aluminum hood, it takes a little getting used to the fact that you’re not surrounded by pure steel. Instead, the frame was created with a new manufacturing process that makes it stronger than ever, and about 700 pounds lighter. Still, some may be worried that the all-new aluminum F-150 isn’t going to last as long as the current steel version. But not only has the model been tested and retested in a lab, they're pushing it to its limits outside the lab in its rawest form: as a fleet vehicle for a mining company for two years.

The reduced weight of the frame has also boosted the 2015 tow rating up to a best-in-class 12,200 pounds, and a max payload at a staggering 3,300 pounds-- about 50 percent better than its closest competitor. The fuel efficiency has also been increased from 5 to 20 percent depending on cab and engine configuration, and though actual EPA ratings have not yet been released yet, we should expect them as soon as the new 2015 F-150 hits the roads.

When the trucks finally show up at Pilson Ford, five trims will be available from the entry level XL to the top tier Platinum. Four engine choices are slated for the 2015 model, including two naturally aspirated and two turbocharged engines. The naturally aspirated engines include a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 282-horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, and the popular 5.0-liter V8 offers 385-horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque.

The two turbocharged engines include a small but powerful 2.7-liter V6 that provides 325-horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, and the popular twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that offers a respectable 365-horsepower and a massive 420 pound-feet of torque. All engines will come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, and both motors fall under the Ecoboost name.

On the outside, the all new 2015 Ford F-150 pickup trucks offer a design that Gastelu claims creates a "grand entrance". While the tough exterior can include the available full LED semi-split headlights, the interior uses some of the highest grade materials ever offered in an F-150, especially if you select the top-of-the-line Platinum trim.

During Gastelu’s test drive of the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 Platinum Crew Cab 4x4, he noted that though the experience was not the complete revelatory, next-gen experience he hoped for, it was exactly what it should be. With the weight deduction, powerful motor, and aluminum body, the new F-150 seems lighter, stronger, and just as solid compared to the previous generation.

However, the one aspect that Gastelu said was out of this world, was the selection of technology. For instance, the new F-150 offers a lane departure prevention system that can automatically control your truck between the road lines. And while this system is not aggressive enough to allow for complete disconnect from the wheel, if you zone out (maybe due to the luxurious optional massage seats) it will jerk the wheel and return your full attention to the road. Other optional technologies include the bird’s eye camera system similar to those found on high-dollar Infiniti and Land Rover trucks, or the impressive self-park system that handles the wheel while you control the speed.

Pilson Ford is very excited about the all-new Ford F-150, and while we eagerly wait for the 2015 models to become available, come down now to learn more about our current offers on the 2014 Ford F-150 today!

Meet the New 2015 Ford Fusion

For 2015, the Ford Fusion will offer many updates over the previous model year. These model year updates include improvements to plug-in hybrid technology, more distinct interior compartments, and multiple optional exterior improvements that will provide a renewed, more modernized vehicle and overall experience.

A total of five powertrain options will be available in the new 2015 Ford Fusion including three gasoline powered engines and two hybrid electric. Three gasoline engines include a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter that produces 175-horsepower, a 1.5-liter Ecoboost turbo with 181-horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and the high performing 2.0-liter Ecoboost turbo that’s good for 240-horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. All motors come standard with an automatic transmission.

If saving gas is more your style, consider either the 2.0-liter hybrid or the 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid. The regular hybrid is good for up to 44 miles per gallon city and 41 miles per gallon highway; however the plug-in Fusion is capable of up to 95 miles per gallon city and 81 miles per gallon highway.

Inside the new 2015 Fusion is a wide array of technology including the Microsoft SYNC and Ford MyTouch systems. New updates to both interfaces allow for even easier usage and faster response times. While most entertainment and business needs including music and addresses can be inputted in the system through syncing a smart device such as an iPhone, by using voice commands, one can easily access other necessary information while never lifting your hands off the wheel.

The 2015 Ford Fusion is available in eight different models ranging from the entry level Fusion S, which starts at just $21,910, to the top of the line Fusion Titanium Energi which comes in at just over $36,000.

With five engine choices (including two hybrid options) and modern technology such as the updated Microsoft SYNC and Ford MyTouch, the 2015 Ford Fusion can offer you the fuel economy you desire with the technology you have come to expect from Ford. With five engine choices (including two hybrid options) and modern technology such as the updated Microsoft SYNC and Ford MyTouch, the 2015 Ford Fusion can offer you the fuel economy you desire with the technology you have come to expect from Ford.

Ford Invests Billions To Revive Lincoln

There is little doubt that in recent years Lincoln, Ford Motor Company’s luxury offering, has suffered from a perception issue. It has fallen behind its competitors as an honest luxury offering and Ford CEO Mark Fields is hoping to change to that.

Earmarked for Lincoln is at least $1 billion annually for the next five years in hopes of pumping some much needed life back into the luxury car maker. This is a noticeable increase over the just $2 billion that has been spent on the company since 2012, according to an unnamed source.

What will Lincoln do with all that cash? You can expect to see a slew of new, original models from the automaker. Though there has been no confirmation that a high-end Continental is in the works, it has been longed rumored.

The extra funding will pay for a new MKX crossover, MKS sedan, and aluminum-bodied Navigator. There will be a refresh of the recently released MKC crossover and replacements for the MKZ sedan and MKT crossover, which both may get completely new platforms by then. Lincoln has a lot of work to do.

The reason behind infusing the company with cash is to help it close the gap with rival Cadillac, which has been somewhat of a runaway success lately with its product renaissance. Even for them, however, the turnaround took close to 10 years.

Ford hopes to triple Lincoln sales to $300,000 by 2020. It is also rumored that Lincoln will have a unique platform from any other Ford model, which will help it differentiate itself from its more affordable siblings.

That unique platform will likely be a two-wheel or all-wheel drive platform that will underpin a slew of next generation Lincolns starting in 2019, according to Reuters.

Lincoln’s most recent offering, the MKC, has been selling well thanks to a recent marketing campaign combined with its unique, stunning styling.

2015 F150

Ford Boasts Less Weight and Greater Overall Strength with New Aluminum Body F150

Ford’s F150 has been the best selling vehicle for upwards of three decades in the United States. For the 2015 models, Ford was debating whether to create a minor change in the vehicle's look, or to roll out a game changer. Ultimately, Ford went with the decision to take the risk with a big change, making them the first automotive manufacturer to build a high-volume vehicle with all-aluminum body panels.

This winter, the all-new 2015 Ford F150s are set to roll into dealerships like Pilson Ford. Ford boasts the high-strength, military grade, aluminum-alloy body on a high-strength steel frame for less weight yet and greater overall strength of the vehicle.

While Ford has been making improvements in both design and luxury, along with utilizing the first V6 turbocharged motor in a full size pickup truck, the all-new 2015 F150 is showing vast improvements in fuel economy, performance, towing and hauling.

Even though no company has even tried to build an aluminum vehicle on such a large scale, Ford is fully committed to the venture.  Currently, the automaker's investments in the new aluminum bodied F150s stand at $1.4 billion. The funds have been used to build out two factories that will manufacture thousands of F150s a day.

If Ford is capable of producing and selling the all new aluminum truck, this gamble could be one of the greatest moves the company has made. But, if there are any delays in production or if buyers are hesisitant about the use of aluminum, or if insurance or repair costs skyrocket, rivals GM and Ram might take even more market share than ever before.

Andrew Lane, an analyst specializing in aluminum and steel at Morningstar Inc., said, “When you combine the enormous upfront cost to install new machinery with the added risk of a higher-cost material on your highest-volume vehicle, it’s a risky proposition.” He continued, “This is a milestone for the auto industry.”

Aluminum itself is currently more pricey than steel on a per ton scale. It is also more difficult to manufacture, based on the scale and quality Ford is hoping for. In addition, the process to install aluminum is different than the process for the steel body used in previous f150 models. For example, in the last generation F150, Ford was able to weld its steel panels together, however, when using aluminum, Ford will need to rivet and bond panels with adhesives. Since Ford is planning on manufacturing around 14,000 F-Series a week, the company needs to make sure their process is flawless.

Other manufacturers that currently build vehicles largely out of aluminum include European luxury brands as Audi, Jaguar, and Land Rover. One take away from comparing these manufacturers' vehicles to Ford’s F150 is the sales figures. In 2013, according to registration data from HIS Automotive, Ford sold 510,000 F150s. The new 2015 aluminum F150 will start at just $26,615. Conversely, the aluminum Range Rover has a starting price of $84,225, and only sells around 12,000 units per year.

“This is way too big to fail”, Dave Sullivan, an analyst at AutoPacific, told the media. “Obviously, Ford feels aluminum is the way to go. We just don’t know if the quality will stay where it needs to.”

The financial industry agrees, and is also wary of the large investment Ford has placed on its biggest money maker. Investment firm Morgan Stanley announced on October 8th that the “changeover is unlikely to go as smooth” as the industry thinks, and recently downgraded the Ford stock price target from $16 to $14.

Analysts outlined how important the F150 is to Ford by pointing out that if the F150 had issues like the recent Ford Escape, which has been recalled 12 times in a year, or any delays with production, it could hurt Ford’s bottom line. The report said, “This is not just a matter of running sheets of aluminum alloy through the same old equipment and out pops a new truck.”

As of August, Ford has halted all F150 production at its Dearborn, Michigan plant while it retrofits the assembly line. Work is said to be completed within the next few weeks. Once the Dearborn plant is 100% complete and ready to manufacture the 2015 F150, Ford will halt production at its Kansas City, Mo. plant. This plant is currently making the new Transit commercial vans.

On top of it, the competition has taken notice, and is boosting incentives to try and sway the loyal Ford buyers to switch brands. Despite it all, Ford isn’t exactly shaking in their boots. “The F150 is selling according to plan,” said company spokesman Mike Levine. While total F150 sales are down by just 1% for the year, figures are pointing toward individuals waiting for the 2015 model year truck.

One question with making the switch to an aluminum bodied vehicle is how to repair it if it’s involved in an accident. For instance, dealerships and body shops will need to upgrade their facilities in order to work on and paint aluminum. AutoNation, a large dealer group that has 43 Ford franchise dealerships, said its expects to spend up to $50,000 per location in upgrades. Total, around 1,100 locations will need to be retrofitted. To help, Ford will invest up to $10,000 per location and also train one technician if necessary. As of now, according to I-CAR, only 15% of technicians at body shops located at Ford dealerships are trained in working with aluminum.

Finally, insurance companies have also noticed that because of the use of aluminum, repair costs might increase. Currently, both Allstate and State Farm say they will take a “wait and see” approach before raising F150 rates.

While Pilson Ford doesn’t have any 2015 F150’s in stock yet, we do have the ability to order one for you. If you need a truck today, take a look at our current vehicles in stock here, or stop by to take a new and used F150s.

Ford tire care

Proper Tire Care is Key to Vehicle Safety

When maintaining a vehicle, things like oil changes and wiper blades are usually thought of first, but tires, oftentimes forgotten, are vital to cars’ safety and longevity. Like a good pair of shoes, tires provide stability for the entirety of the car. Without them, unnecessary wear and tear can occur on other components of your car, like the suspension.

We here at Pilson Ford offer a wide range of tire products and services to guarantee your tires are correct and safe for your car.

Tires are easily stressed. Under harsh conditions, particularly warm weather, long trips, heavy loads and high speeds, tires wear. Under these circumstances, good tires are required for utmost safety.

A great place to start ensuring you have good, safe tires is to visually inspect tires for signs of wear or damage. Just looking at your tires can give you a lot of information about their condition, good or bad.

Beyond visually inspecting your car’s tires, you can measure the tire pressure. First, measure tires when they are cold before driving the car. Warm tires will indicate increased pressure. Hot air expands and can easily give false pressure readings. There are multiple places to find your car’s recommended tire pressure.

Often, there is a sticker in the door jam of the driver’s door that will list it. To be safe, check the owner’s manual. Remember, the recommended tire pressure and maximum tire pressure are not the same thing. Be careful as to read the correct number. When tires are filled to the proper pressure, they will last much longer and operate as advertised, meaning they will be less likely to fail and save the car fuel.

Another way to extend the life of your tires is to never overload your car. Tires are designed to operate up to a specific load limit, which are shown in your owner’s manual and on the door jam sticker mentioned earlier. Too much weight in a vehicle can cause a blowout.

When visually inspecting the tires, be sure there is plenty of tread left. A good test is to take a penny and insert it headfirst. The tread should be deep enough to cover the top of Lincoln’s head. If the tread is lower than that, the tires are unsafe and should be replaced quickly.

Another indicator that it is time for new tires—or an entire problem altogether—is if the tires are wearing unevenly. Misaligned wheels could mean worn shocks or suspension bits that are causing the uneven wear. Properly aligned and balanced tires will greatly extend their life and efficiency. If you are in need of new tires or would like one of our Ford certified technicians to check them for you, visit Pilson Ford’s Service Department.

Mustang Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Limited Edition

At the recent New York Auto Show, the 50th anniversary edition of this powerhouse was let loose on the public. This is fitting, seeing how the Mustang was originally unveiled all those years ago at the New York World’s Fair.

This is certainly a limited edition vehicle, with only 1,964 vehicles being built. The cars will be available in only two colors: Wimbledon White (seen on the left) or Kona Blue, which is reminiscent of the Serial No. 0001 ‘stang sold in April of 1964.

The Special Edition will be based on the new GT Fastback and it also gets the performance pack. This monster will be powered with a 5.0-L V8 that puts out 420-hp and 390 lb/ft torque. You won’t see any other 2015 model with an automatic transmission and performance pack combined.

What sets this edition apart from the GT fastback everyone else is driving are the visual elements and trim enhancements. There will be a leather-wrapped steering wheel with cashmere stitching.

The leather also extends to the instrument panel, armrests, shifter boot and seats. The seats themselves will be a cashmere/black combination of colors with a special edition patch on the backs of the seats. The carpeting will also be made with upgraded materials. Dipping back into the era of the original Mustangs, there have been chrome elements added onto the car. These areas include with grille and tail lamps, but are kept very subtle and tasteful.

There are other enhancements made with the original model of Mustang kept in mind that will receive the nod of approval from classic car enthusiasts. However, those enhancements have been adapted to this newer version of the Mustang and flow very nicely with the modern look.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this iconic vehicle, there were a few parties held in the pony car’s honor. Mustangs from all over the world gathered together not just in New York, but also in Charlotte, Las Vegas and at the Ford World Headquarters in Detroit, MI which isn’t too far from our Pilson Ford  in Mattoon and Charleston, IL. At these celebrations, owners brought their Mustangs, old and new, to share in the history of the Mustang. Thousands of vehicles were on display and people came from as far as Australia to join in. Henry Ford III attended the event in Las Vegas.

Fans were able to see rare and unusual vehicles from the Henry Ford Museum. Over 9 million mustangs have been sold since its debut in 1964…that’s about 180,000 cars a year! From what everyone here at Pilson Ford has seen, there is no end in sight for this iconic powerhouse. Contact us today to see how you can get your hands on a 50th Anniversary Special Edition and to learn more about the stunning new 2015 Ford Mustang.

Ford F-150 SVT Raptor: Most Capability You Can Get in a UTV

What’s driving off-the-chart production of the 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor? Ask any F-150 enthusiast and they’d probably look at you like you never got the memo.

Ford’s newest 4×4 pickup is without a doubt the best-selling truck in the U.S. – and for good reason. The combination of power, performance, and incredible off-road capability is why in 2012 and 2013, the Raptor broke sales records 8 out of 10 months.

Ford’s sales were up an impressive 14 percent last year and compared to other vehicles that average somewhere around a 60 day turnaround, dealers have been turning a 15- day supply on their lots.

So, just what makes this truck so amazing? First, it’s incredibly powerful. Imagine 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque being powered by a 6.2 liter V8 engine. This vehicle offers the control and capability to tow 1100 lbs of whatever you need to tow – boat, bike or trailer.

The Ford Raptor was built to tackle the toughest terrain – it controls rocky slopes, and effortlessly takes on hills, delivering the maximum potential you can get in a full-size pickup. Whether you choose the high-speed option for flat surfaces or potent torque force for tougher climbs, the Raptor is guaranteed to go where no other vehicle dares to go.

Ford made sure its truck had superior handling characteristics. The internal helical gearset shifts the torque when you need it, where you need it. Push the Hill Descent Control technology offers the kind of road mastery that descends and brakes automatically.

The Ford F150 Raptor is equipped with Fox Racing Shox – internal triple by-pass shocks that  give the rider position sensitive damping, while the long travel suspension is geared towards those intense off road moments.

This is a hard-core high performance truck with so many awesome features that Ford has a hard time keeping up with production due to the demand on this year’s vehicle.

When it first launched, the car maker produced two Raptors every hour. The Raptor’s popularity has increased so much that Ford had to up its production capacity to five trucks per hour just to stay ahead of the game. The car maker reports a 67 percent increase in production which means they’re selling somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 Raptors per month.

Whether you love trucks or not, it’s hard to deny that the 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is not only one of the best built UTVs available today, it’s also one of the best looking full-size trucks around. For a full selection of Ford trucks, visit Pilson Ford in Mattoon, IL.

Real World Testing Behind Ford's New F-150

The 2015 Ford F-150 is leaps and bounds ahead of current truck-making technology.  While aluminum components are frequently used in the highest-selling truck in the United States, such as the doors and hood, Ford took a giant step forward and made the F-150 with an all aluminum body on a lighter steel frame.  It’s something Pilson Ford has never seen in one of our vehicles and we are very excited to have them come into our inventory.

Ford went ahead with its plans to make a truck that is lighter and more energy efficient without losing durability by changing the composition of the steel frame and making a body that is entirely aluminum. They managed to lighten the F-150 by over 700 pounds.  Ford has seen such positive feedback from its recent release of the Ecoboost 3.5-L engine, so the idea was carried over into the next generation.

The engine that comes standard in the 2015 F-150 is the new 2.7-L Ecoboost. With a lighter truck, the engine is more than enough to keep up with the work required and even finished the grueling Baja 1000 in great shape.  The drivers even took the car straight from the race back to Michigan without any repairs needed.  However, the 2015 F-150 that raced the Baja 1000 had everyone fooled into thinking it was a 2014.  The body shapes are nearly identical but it’s what makes up the body that was the secret.

This wasn’t the first time Ford has snuck the 2015 F-150 into driving scenarios with no-one the wiser.  They gave six of the aluminum models to loyal customers with tough outdoor jobs.  The owners were told they were testing new features of the F-150 but did not know that the body was made of something different.  They were used and abused like any other work truck for two years while the drivers gave their feedback on everything about the truck.

Small changes were made here and there but overall the customers were extremely satisfied and impressed by the trucks.  It was quite a surprise to reveal exactly what they had been driving to extremes over the past couple of years.

Pilson Ford is proud to be a part of auto-making history. Contact us to get up-to-date information and to find out when the 2015 Ford F-150 will be making its way into our showroom.

Tips to Drive More Economically This Summer

No one wants to spend more money than they have to at the pump, especially during summer vacations.  There are many things you can do to cut back on the gas bill and we here at Pilson Ford are glad to share some tips with you!

Choose a Fuel Efficient Vehicle.

The most obvious answer to saving money in the fuel department is to purchase a fuel efficient vehicle.  Our Ford Focus has gained popularity for its amazing fuel economy in a vehicle that is still fun to drive. The Ford Focus electric is the number two best fuel economy vehicle according to Consumer Reports, getting about 107 mpg. If you are not currently in the market for a new vehicle, there are still plenty of things you can do to improve fuel efficiency with your current ride.

Get Routine Oil Changes and Tune-ups.

Keep your vehicle well maintained with regular oil changes and tune-ups.  This includes checking the tires regularly.  Driving on under-inflated tires can not only reduce efficiency but is also damaging to the tires and dangerous to drive.

Don’t Weigh Down Your Car.

Plan what you are packing for your summer trip. The more weight you add to your vehicle, the less it will get out of a tank of gas.  Make a list of things you have to pack from your home and try to wait to buy things like food and drinks when you arrive at your destination.

Avoid Rooftop Cargo Racks.

Studies have shown that a rooftop cargo carrier can be a drain on fuel economy.  The aerodynamic design of your vehicle is compromised with a cargo carrier on the roof, so if you drive an SUV you may want to consider getting a rack for the back of the vehicle.

Steer Clear of Rush Hour Traffic.

Planning when you drive can be important too. Leaving a little early or late can make a big difference if you are not burning gas waiting in rush hour traffic.  When you are past the traffic jam, be sure to cruise down the highway with the windows closed.

Use Air Conditioning Only When Necessary.

Running the air conditioner lightly will be more fuel efficient than driving with the windows rolled down.  A vehicle’s maximum aerodynamic capacity cannot be reached unless all the windows are closed.

These are just a few of the ways to make your dollar stretch further this summer. Whether you are looking to purchase a more fuel efficient vehicle or just make your current car as efficient as possible, Pilson Ford is here to help.  Contact us today if you’re interested in a new Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Lincoln, or Ford! We also have a huge used car inventory so be sure to stop over and visit us.

Ford Mustang

New Safety Technology Offered in 2015 Ford Mustang

It’s almost time for the new Ford Mustang to arrive here at Pilson Ford.  The 2015 Mustang is one of our most anticipated new arrivals of the year.  Muscle-car lovers will be salivating to get behind the wheel and hit the open roads. However, Ford is not only keeping the thrills in mind when they bring you such a powerhouse.  They also want to bring you the latest in safety technology.

The 2015 Mustang will come with a newly redesigned airbag specifically targeted to protect the passenger’s knees.  Everyone that has ridden in a Mustang’s comfortable sport seats know that the configuration is not the same as it is for your average family car.  Ford has already implemented the airbag technology for passengers’ knees, but before it was secured under the instrument panel and it was the same bulky and heavy fabric material as the other airbags. Now the passenger knee airbag has been adjusted for maximum safety in the event of a crash while saving on cabin space.

The new plastic air bladder is stored in the door of the glove box.  The material is lighter weight than the traditional cloth airbags and it doesn’t take up as much space. When the car detects an oncoming impact, the small plastic air bladder is filled, pushing the glove box door out and towards the passenger’s knees.  The door helps to cushion the impact and distribute the force over a wider area which drastically diminishes the shock wave to the passenger’s legs.  Designers are calling this the “Active Glove Box” technology.

This is just one example of how Ford is making the Mustang safer than ever.  The newest Mustangs will have double the airbags and safety sensors from than the previous model.

The mass production of the 2015 Ford Mustang will be starting any day now and we expect them to start arriving here at Pilson Ford by this fall. Contact us to be one of the first notified of their arrival and we will get you behind the fast (and very safe) wheel of your very own pony car.
